Wonderful Lakeland experience and probably the cleanest bathroom ever. A joy to get back to after a day on the fells. Superb breakfasts with quality, local ingredients, Tea, coffee and biscuit suppliers from Ambleside and it showed cut above usual supemarket offerings. Staff truly amazing, accommodating, pleasant, nothing too much trouble. The atmosphere encourages a friendliness amongts the guests. Listening to conversations in the pub everyone delighted with their choice of accommodation.

Lovely traditional pub with great food and comfy bed. Would definitely recommend to stay here, ideally positioned for walks and a short drive from Ambleside

The staff and the atmosphere at the inn is friendly and relaxing , great with dogs . Husband took me for a couple of nights as I had just retired from dog grooming and he knows I love this place and had always wanted to stay . Rooms very good excellent shower etc . BUT the food was awful first night I had sausage and mash as we had been on a cold and long walk it was sooo salty I could eat very much and the sausage had been cremated . Next night we left the dogs upstairs and booked the dining room ( there is a 10% extra charge for this ) I thought I’ll have chicken and leak pie thinking how can this not be decent well oven chips and microwaved pie horrid yet again ! And it was about £17 ! The menu is just pub grub so surely they could get it right , really enjoyed the weekend there but come on pull your socks up and serve good simple food !

We had dinner at The Britannia Inn on a Sunday night. It was quite excellent, I had the slow-roasted Pork Belly, and it was beautifully presented and really tasty, Other members of the group had the veggie chili, a burger, or one of their famous pies. All delicious.

First things first……been before for a beer and great little pub.Decided to stay with a one year old dog but this is where it gets interesting.Even if you are staying you can only reserve a table in the dining room but no dogs allowed.Leave the dog in the room or take your chance in the bar.I was told it would be quiet but packed even at 6pm.We did get a table before the crowds descended on the pub but what if we couldn’t.Breakfast was the worst as they said we could eat in the bar but it was locked. One table had been laid in the hall for another couple with a dog but we left with the tiniest of tables…….no room even for the cafetière! Surely it would be better for the staff to check which rooms have dogs so they can open up the bar.Great little pub and a great crack with the locals at the end but wouldn’t stay again with the dog in tow.

They charge a 10% extra for booking in the restaurant for the staff. Unless you book the "restaurant" there is a first come, first served ordering service for the main bar which is very small. Not a problem normally but the staff were certainly not the best. They were pretty disinterested, and not particularly friendly.
The food wasn't very good either. I had a chicken and leek pie, which was obviously microwaved, the mashed potatoes too, and the broccolli as hard as a bullet which when I mentioned was told that they were "mention it to the chef."
The place itself is very dated and certainly not as clean as it could be. I know that it is in the Lakes and attracts walkers but it needs to up it's game to justify the service charge. Certainly would not return in the future.

The Britannia is not a swanky hotel. But if you want a proper English country pub with great food and beer then this is perfection. The staff were very friendly and helpful. The room was nice. Not huge. And I could hear a bit of noise from the pub. But you’re staying in a pub so this is to be expected. It is an old building so an elderly person might find the stairs and steps a bit awkward. But I loved the character of the place.
Nice breakfast too.
Langdale is a great place and Elterwater is a beautiful little village.
Thank you to all at The Brit!!

Walked here from Grasmere, and ate a well earned lunch before we walked back. The bar staff were very friendly, and dogs are made welcome. I had a very good ham sandwich, served with crisps and salad. It is a basic county pub that welcomes everyone, and is therefore very popular!

We have fell in love with the Lake District and this area in particular. We walk here from Grasmere and is a favourite stop when we are walking in and around the area.
Food is always Top notch, service is second to none. I’ve never seen a dirty table once people have left like I’ve seen in other places. My advice is get there early as the Britannia is incredibly popular but that’s no surprise as the place is a gem in the heart of the Langdale valley. We don’t get there often but when we do,it’s always on our list to visit.

Obsessed with the falafel naan sandwich. Wish it was available on the eve menu too. Only thing I think that they could change looks wise is the inside decor it’s a bit dated.
