An absolute icon of both Ambleside and the Lake District. When we first arrived there was a note saying the curator was having lunch, back at 2.10pm. So we dutifully returned and that’s worth doing because you will learn a lot. It spans Stock Beck...More

If you park in the Rydal car park in the town centre then you are bound to see this quaint little house bridging the stream. Its such an iconic building in Ambleside that its something you must see to believe how small it is!

A small house spanning the river managed by the National Trust. Free entry for all. Friendly lady who is more than willing to tell you all about it. Even when closed a close look at it is a must when in Ambleside.

No visit to Ambleside would be complete without a trip to the Bridge House, looked after, when we visited by a very knowledgeable and friendly lady curator. Check opening times before you go and note that there are queues during peak hours.

Pleased such a small building is still standing and now in hands of National Trust. Good to see what George Clarke could make of it!

It’s quite a lovely little thing to look at, positioned over a fast flowing river as it is. It’s by the main road and a car park so it’s hard to miss.

I just stayed in front of this place and it was amazing. A small river crossing the bridge with peaceful sound and a beautiful tiny stone house. Just in front of apple pie café. Love it. Good place to sit down and enjoy the present...More
