Nice quaint place, friendly staff and a local busy atmosphere. Lots of walkers and dogs during day and locals at night. Generally good but two flat pints was a disappointment but not the end of the world. Good addition to our pub crawl

Together with friends we spent a Friday evening in the Golden Rule. My friend and i tried all of the golden ales on offer and all were good and well kept. The place was full and the atmosphere really welcoming. This is a place that is great for ramblers to visit. Well be back.

What a nice English pub. We had seen the pub mentioned as a place to visit so decided to do so while at Ambleside during a break on a boat trip we were having on Lake Windermere. The village is about a mile from the pier but there is a quaint service which will transport you in an old electric... More

We watched the tour of Britain cycle race passing through Ambleside from outside the Golden rule and enjoyed a couple of beers later this pub is a must if you visit Ambleside.

This is a lovley traditional pub, serves a variety of food beer, and has fresh traditional bar snacks, like fresh pork pie and homemade Scotch eggs, there is also a dart board.

This is a great post walk pint. There is a beer to suit every taste. I am not a great beer drinker, but I enjoyed my pint of blonde. A no nonsense place, we were able to sit outside and chat to the other walkers and their dogs.

Been in a couple of times on our last two visits to Ambleside. This is a proper pub. Friendly staff, guest beers, local interest. I'm sure to those in the know this is a real ale pub, I don't really know but I would say call in for a pint. Brilliant!

Visited this pub many times during our two week stay, and really enjoyed this place. Great little beer garden area is the perfect chill out from the busy town centre areas. Bar staff very friendly and welcoming. We will definitely be back here on our next visit as I couldn't imagine not calling in for a drink or three.
