Been in a couple of times on our last two visits to Ambleside. This is a proper pub. Friendly staff, guest beers, local interest. I'm sure to those in the know this is a real ale pub, I don't really know but I would say call in for a pint. Brilliant!

Visited this pub many times during our two week stay, and really enjoyed this place. Great little beer garden area is the perfect chill out from the busy town centre areas. Bar staff very friendly and welcoming. We will definitely be back here on our next visit as I couldn't imagine not calling in for a drink or three.

This is a gem of a pub with a long history (along with an unusual name). The main bar is welcoming and well stocked with a range of hand pumps, bagged snacks and pork pies. It has two additional rooms in traditional style and a nice outdoor seating area at the rear. The staff are friendly and knowledgeable about their... More

Well worth a visit if you're in Ambleside away from the more commercial ones. Great selection of ales and nice feel.

Back to the Lakes for a few days walking. No visit would be complete without having visited this lovely pub that catches the sun during the late afternoon. A nice spot with good beers and a good atmosphere.

We found this pub by chance after a walk . Really nice traditional pub. Bar man was very friendly and big choice of ales. The scotch eggs (sourced from a local butcher) were fabulous. The type of place you could easily while away an afternoon. Recommended!

on a short three day visit to Ambleside we visited this pub four times and every time the beer was excellent. I tried a different beer on each visit as there are lots to choose from. No pub food, just great real ale! The best pub in Ambleside by a mile.
