Adam our instructor was brilliant. His friendliness and enthusiasm made the whole experience really enjoyable. We did a taster climbing session for an hour, warming up on the bouldering wall then moving to the main climbing wall. We all loved it, really relaxed but safety taken seriously so felt totally safe. Thank you!

We booked a session at the Ambleside Climbing Wall as the weather wasn't great. We initially booked an unaided session for 2 plus a student (as we had all climbed before) but when we arrived we were advised that we needed an instructor. Nathan quickly stepped in and was brilliant. Great energy, very experienced and good with the kids. We had a brilliant time and will definitely be back. I would have given 5 stars but for the price, which jumped up by over £40 once we added an instructor. It was an expensive hour but enjoyable nonetheless.

Me and my family were on a trip to the Lake District and staying in Ambleside, which is a very nice town overall, and most of the time was climbing mountains and such like. However, on our last day, it was raining hard, but we still wanted to do something and this climbing wall had caught our eye. Located above a climbing shop at the bottom of the hill our house was on, it was situated perfectly for a quick rainy walk to the place and the same back.

When we got there, my dad, my two sisters and I (my mum stayed at home) were met by our very entertaining and enthusiastic climbing instructor, George. And by George, he was amazing, a perfect balance of help and playful support.

After finding the correct size of climbing shoe, which could be rented out at a very reasonable price considering the amount they helped once on the wall, we were immediately taken into the bouldering room, and taught the basics of climbing walls and then took part in challenges. The best thing was, it didn’t matter how good you were as there were challenges that suited everyone.

Then we were taken into the impressive climbing wall room, and those walls were high! After a quick briefing of the harnesses and pulley system we were ready to go. There was an easier wall and a harder wall. Me and my dad started on the harder wall (as we were similar weights) and I was climbing while he was belaying (controlling my rope and keeping me from dying). I reached the top first try, but don’t let that fall you, I’ve climbed before and it wasn’t easy by any means!

After coming down, George then challenges me to do the wall only using green handholds, and that time the wall beat the man. I just couldn’t do it. But it was very fun to try.

Then we all rotated and my dad was climbing while I belayed him. He didn’t do as well as me as he is scared of heights. But when we switched to the easier wall, after some supportive words before he started and some while he was on the wall, meant he did manage to reach the top! He was VERY happy when he came down.

As I had done well on the hard wall, George just set me hard challenges on the easier wall and I enjoyed myself immensely just trying to figure out how to beat them.

Once the climbing shoes were off and bid fair well to George, we went and had a quick bite in the cafe above the wall, which had a viewing window which allowed an easy view of the wall and those on it, and some parents were sitting up there watching kids of their own doing it, and I found it fun to marvel at those who looked like professionals, jumping up and down the wall with ease.

Afterwards, when we got back to the house I collapsed on a chair with aching arms and legs, but very proud of what I’d done.

All in all, an excellent experience every wall I attempted, and am looking forward to doing it again next year (hopefully).

We have climbed here before on a previous holiday and were delighted to find them open again. The measures in place for Covid are excellent and we felt very confident, hand sanitising between climbs and marked out zones in the climbing area. It really goes to show you can still enjoy activities in a safe way. We climbed independently. The staff explained things clearly and were lovely and helpful throughout. Cannot recommend this enough.

Fantastic facility, with great instructors who explained things clearly but with a very nice friendly way for the kids. My 7 year old loved the bouldering and her confidence really grew during the hour we spent here. We would definitely come back.

Had such a good time today doing the climbing. The people working there were very friendly and helped each step of the way. There was also a superb view of the climbing walls from the cafe. I would definitely recommend this place as it is great fun and kills time on a rainy day!

Had a brilliant taster session here yesterday. Instructor Adam was amazing, he worked really well with the mixed age group of adult/teen/younger child. He was also really knowledgeable about autism/anxiety disorders. Would thoroughly recommend to anyone - thank you :-)

My 9 year old had a great taster session here today. Her instructor was fantastic; humorous and knowledgeable. He put her at ease and taught her a huge amount in the hour. She did a mixture of bouldering and various parts of the climbing wall and loved it!
Highly recommended.

We took our grand daughters aged 6 and 8 as a treat.
They absolutely loved it. The instructor Matt was excellent and had just the right balance of fun, instruction and discipline to keep the kids attention. They were given initial experience on a low wall equipped with a thick foam mattress floor so they were able to fall without hurting themselves.
Then followed proper full on climbing with harnesses and ropes which involved team work.
They were gently coaxed when they got stuck and both reached the very top with shouts of joy.
The experience teaches children that they can overcome fear and do that bit extra to reach their goal.
It was a day they will never forget and well worth the £15 each for 1.5 hours.

Took my son to the climbing Centre in Ambleside and wish I hadn’t!! The guy who served us was massively pretentious and lacked any customer service skills. Upon explaining I had no climbing experience I was told to just sign the forms stating I did so otherwise my son couldn’t use the facilities. Even though I only intended to use the bouldering wall I think that it must be dangerous to allow anyone to use the main walls without the required expertise - even with forms being ‘signed’ there should be a duty of care?
The guy in question was far too busy sitting on his backside as we were the only customers to see how my son was getting on.
The final straw for me was that despite paying £12.50 for my son to spend approx 30 mins when asked to use some chalk I was told it was another £2.50 - total joke!

Will not be returning and would advise to do likewise as better staff elsewhere.
