We did this walk yesterday, i started in Bassenthwaite village and walked along The Edge to the summit in a little over 2 hours whilst the family took the traditional tourist route and took a round 3 hours. My journey up was fine with spectacular...More

Quite an achievement taking the ‘tourist route’ in yesterday’s early morning horizontal August sleet and dense cloud. 30 foot visibility and had it not been for the trig point wouldn’t have had a clue we were at the top. Also managed to take the ‘left’...More

We live locally and can see the summit from our garden which towers above the horizon for miles around, so whenever we get chance to go up it’s great to enjoy the reversed view looking out over the lakes such as Derwent and Bassenthwaite. You...More

Party of six adults. Hiked from our holiday house in Applethwaite to mountain. Beautiful days walking. Varying ages from early 20s to mid 50s. Probably not much fun in the rain, but we only had a bit of cloud which lifted as we neared the...More

a bit of a testing climb uphill but well worth doing - quite a steep climb up initially but then becomes easier - great views although these can be obscured by low cloud at times - I think you need to pick your day as...More

This is a pretty physically challenging hike, I would recommend being fairly active before attempting skiddaw. Once you’re through the woods at the start of the ascent it’s an easy hike in terms of navigation as there’s nothing to obscure your view to the summit....More

This again was a good steady climb and after leaving the road it was a slog to reach. It was not as good as climbing Helvellyn but still worth the effort. It was slatey at the top but was quite popular. Great view of Keswick

Nice walk with great views over Keswick and Bassenthwaite. Weather was kind which helped, took approx 2 hours to the summit via Jenkin Hill Path. No facilities anywhere but that wasn't a problem for us. Only moderate levels of fitness needed for this one

We were lucky with the weather. Skidaw was a strenuous walk but views were great. Very windy at the top but fun. Would recomend this walk to anyone who is reasonably fit.

Just read a review on here from someone who has marked Skiddaw 1* stating it is too high and underdeveloped? The review states there is no visitor centre on the summit and we should be charged £5 to climb it and the money put towards...More

There is a large, public car park directly behind your hotel. I believe that the hotel issues parking permits at a rate of £2 per 24 hours. Check the hotel website. Finding a parking space can be difficult at certain times... More

The route from Latrigg is straightforward but not boring. However there are more interesting ways. I like the route that takes in Ling How, The Edge, Ullock Pike, Longside Edge, Long Side, Carl Side, and Skiddaw summit,
