Favourite gig venue. The place has a unique charm, some may think it's worn down but that's what it makes it special. Friendly staff, wide range of drinks and snacks available. Interesting front bar area. Intimate setting which allows you to get close to the bands.
Couldn't speak anymore highly of this place. Would definitely recommend if you like live music. They always have a wide range of musicians playing every week.

First gig I went to here; Sid Presley Experience in the 80's, seen a few decent gigs since then. Frank Sidebottom & The Gargoyles (before the place was modernised!!!) to name just two, stand out.
Has to be one of the most iconic venues in Hull. If you havent yet been there or are a bit uncertain whether to go - go!! First class memories from more than two decades (frightening)

As a music promoter, I've been to many, many venues around the U.K whilst tour managing. One of my all time favourite venues is The Adelphi. It's got an atmosphere all of its own, it's wonderfully shabby, but this adds to the ambience! Jacko, the boss, is a top class landlord, Jim the soundman really knows his stuff, and Eddy Bewsher is probably the best promoter in the area, with a great taste in music- he won't book ANYTHING he doesn't like! If you want a great night of music at a very reasonable price (sometimes free!) The Adelphi is for you!

It has been quite some time since I attended the Adelphi and in that time the bar has had a complete rethink about the range of beers. No longer is it naff beer which makes the world of difference to a social night out. I may not wait as long before I revisit

Went to the Adelphi to see Beans on Toast last night, I loved the feel of the place, nice small intimate venue. Great bar prices and selection of hand pulled beers on offer as well.

We went here on a Wednesday night with friends to watch three bands. I’m not actually sure how much we paid to get in as my husband paid but the drinks were reasonably priced once inside. The place is unique to say the least!
The bar is made of an old bus front and it looks like the inside of someone’s living room. It’s intimate and loud and a fabulous atmosphere from the minute you walk in. The toilets are fairly clean but don’t come here if you have an ounce of snobbery about you. It’s a typical divey place with some fantastic music where you can have a cheap beer and laughs, no airs and graces. Worth a visit if you like friendly people and great local loud music!

Without a doubt this is the best music venue I've been to, and not just in Hull but nationally.
It's tiny, dark, and a little dilapidated, but relaxed and friendly. I spent many of my student days here, although that's not to say that it is an exclusively student-centric place - it isn't at all. In fact, it's clientèle tends to be extremely cosmopolitan. Its great atmosphere extends to weekend visits unlike so many of the other local licensed premises which can transform into meat markets on a Friday and Saturday night.
They serve wonderful real ale which in my opinion is the best in the area served at a reasonable price - it's fantastic, and somewhat unusual, to first have drinks of a good quality at a gig and second to not to be ripped off for the privilege!
Then there's the live music. Wow, the live music! I've seen so many amazing acts here. From excellent local bands like Foolish Atoms, to cult US musicians like Carla Bozulich and Jeffrey Lewis, to secret performances from massive acts like Jarvis Cocker!
They do an amazing free entry open mic/variety night every Monday. I used to go religiously and witnessed, amongst other acts: poets; singer/songwriters; full bands; fire breathers and magicians. I cannot recommend this enough.

Probably one of the strangest and most fantastic music venues in the country. Very friendly and great beers inc real ales. Thousands of famous bands have played there on their way to the top. It's a terraced house! And there's a pool room with a double decker bus as the bar! No trouble. No airs and graces, dark and grungy... think CBGB's.
