Previous visits to Dunorlan Park (pre lock down) have resulted in a relaxing stroll amongst the greenery, and around the boating lake. One can spend hours taking in the beautiful gardens and easily forget that you're only 10 minutes walk from the hustle and bustle of the town centre and all that traffic!
However, during lockdown, to take advantage of the peacefulness and tranquility you ned to get there early, otherwise you'll be battling with runners, mothers with buggies, couples held together with glue, who all seem to want to own the pathways and not give any distance (2m I believe is the recommendation) for social distancing purposes.
This doesn't detract from the beauty of the park though!

I love Dunorlan Park, and most importantly, my dog loves dunorlan Park. There’s lots of safe space for her to run around it, lots of other lovely dogs and loads of different types of places for her to explore. Ducks are often close to the lake, so if you have a cheeky dog I’d recommend you keep them on the lead when close to the lake, but otherwise it’s great for roaming.

Once the private grounds of a Victorian millionaire's mansion, Dunorlan Park is an excellent open green area in Royal Tunbridge Wells. An excellent place for walking with well maintained pths (both wheelchair and pushchair friendly, although the hill down to the lake is fairly steep) and benches for watching the abundant birdlife, Dunorlan Park has two distinct area; a formal area, where dogs should be on a lead, and a less formal area, where dogs can run free. Apart from walking, there is also a boating lake, a large children's play area and an outdoor gym. This pleasant spot is also ideal for picnics, although there is a cafe. There is a smallish car park on the Pembury Road and colourful toilet facilities are available in the park. An ideal place to spend a day.

Great park, not tried the cafe here but the walk itself is lovely, around the lake, over wooden bridges, childrens play area, do the larger loop and see plaques/info about the war era, little hidden spots containing statues or fountains and the lake itself great for boating/sports in the warmer months. Lots of terraces to explore, flower gardens etc. Great for a group, often has events going on (fireworks, food festivals etc) but parking here is tight. The top car park is on a steep hill, great going down into the park, hard work getting back up to the car if mobility is an issue...parking at the top must be for circa 20/25 cars some disabled spots. The bottom parking by the lake isn't much bigger but does avoid the steep hill to/from the car. Free parking.

Coming from Ashford we had arranged to meet friends here so to ensure safe social distancing. Unfortunately parking is dire and having got in the car park we were stuck as people decided to stop and wait for spaces to become available!!!
We managed to drive the 15 minutes to our friends home instead and walked in from theirs, parking in the housing area.
The park itself is pretty and well maintained. We enjoyed the pédalos too and these were a fair price.

I have visited this place so many times since I came to live in Tunbridge Wells in 1952.
It is peaceful, quiet and most important of all so well looked after. A visitor could spend a whole day here. Do not take my word for it. Just go there and have a taste of not just the coffee at the cafe but also to breather in the fresh air, watch the wildlife and much more.

We live nearby and used to go to this park quite frequently but we’re put off during covid as it was so busy with mums and their pushchairs who like to walk side by side along the paths so anyone else has to walk on the grass as they do not get out of the way, we went today and there were less people about but the mums with buggy’s were still there unfortunately. Why do they insist on walking side by side. Just have some consideration for others and walk behind one another to let people past.

We accessed Dunorlan Park via Halls Hole road. Entrance isn’t sign posted but it’s easy to find and there are 2 car parks on this side of the park. Park is free to enter, path leads straight to the Boating Lake. Paths are well maintained. There is a choice of craft to hire from the Boat House, (pedalo, canoe or rowing boat). Check website for prices and opening times. Safety kit included where necessary. Happy friendly staff help you to whichever type of boat you’ve hired. Beware of the crocodile!
Park has lovely mature trees and lots of space for the kids. Toilets and a Cafe onsite. Kids play area and plenty of space to lie back and have a picnic. Overall a good well maintained park to kill a few hours in.

Tunbridge Wells has some fine parks but Dunorlan is the biggest and the best. A boating lake with wildfowl, a cafe, children's playground and now adult gym equipment. It can stage events like Pub in the Park and the weekly Parkrun.

A lovely park to stroll around or hire a boat on the lake. Cafe was good, boat hire was OK at £8 for 30 mins. The fountain and Greek temple look fantastic and we also took a walk to the VC Grove at the far end. We enjoyed this park and will return.

Is there somewhere to store valuables at the boating lake?
As far as I know there isn't, there is a boat house and things could be left with those running the boats but I doubt there is any kind of safe.

Are dogs allowed into the park

Yes, dogs are allowed. On a lead is best because of the children and the water birds, but I have seen people exercising them off the lead. Also seen owners risking drowning trying to retrieve their dogs from the lake.
