We paid £12 for a family ticket on Groupon which was very good value. Our steam train was called 'Ugly' and she took us to Eridge where we got off to watch the coupling of the diesel that took us back to West Station. A pretty ride through the countryside, friendly staff and well kept stations. The reason I did... More

On Saturday, I took a party of 14 friends and family on the Murder Mystery, Fish and Chip Special at the Spa Valley Railway. We had a really great evening and the entertainment was bawdy (a bit) and brilliant with everyone thoroughly enjoying themselves. Showing that we watch far too many detective programmes, my wife and I had, at one... More

Disappointed to turn up and find there was no steam engine to take us out but a diesel. I was asked for my tickets three times! The countryside was nice to look at on return journey from Tunbridge Wells To Eridge. Don't think I'd go again or recommend to others.

First train of the day and the tables and seats already had crumbs on! Toilets were very grim! Went on a groupon deal, but shouldn't of bothered buying a ticket as no one actually checked. You could have had a day out for free!

We went on the Saturday evening Fish & Chip special as a party of four. Departed around 8'ish with train running late. F & C delivered just before we left. It was all but cold! Train was diesel pulled from Tun Wells to Eridge with steam hauled return. Promised Steam traction engines and vintage cars at Eridge. But everything was... More

Dear BJL, Thank you for coming to visit us and for taking the time to share your views. I'm sorry you felt that it wasn't up to scratch, and there are certainly some pointers to how we can do better in future with this event. Our General Manager - who unlike me was present on Saturday night and has some... More

A lovely evening steam ride with beer, wine, fish and chips with quiz. A super evening. You may see some deer too. The countryside is beautiful you may seem you have gone back in time if you shut your eyes.

Found the small station hidden away after a stroll through the Pantils. Caught th 11:50 from Tunbridge wells West. Diesel train out past High rocks, Grombridge and on to Eridge. Engine changed to a steamer for the return journey

Often wondered what it was like to drive a train having spent most of my working life in the road transport industry, well here was my opportunity a seventy five ton diesel loco. My instructor was Jonnie Wesson the general manager of SVR he gave me the basics to drive the train from Tun-Wells to Groombridge and back and was... More

On the whole I was disappointed with the trip as I expected it to be a steam engine instead it was a diesel engine to pull our carriages. Very friendly and efficient staff who did everything to make it an enjoyable trip. We were on a pensioners club day trip and were provided with a fish and chip meal served... More

Dear Harvey, Thank you for coming to visit us and posting your feedback. I completely understand (and share) your disappointment on the steam engine front. As I've said in earlier responses, we are actively training our volunteers in steam traction to address this, but it's not a five minute exercise. One could argue that we should have seen this coming... More

The Spa Valley is a great little railway, often overlook with the K&ESR and Bluebell Line so near by. Runs for about 7 miles to Eridge, but only goes to Groombridge station on Yellow days. A great selection of diesel loco's, but to my knowledge only one working steam loco at present, plenty of parking at Tunbridge Wells in the... More

Dear Craig, Thank you for your feedback, and for coming to visit us as often as you do - we really appreciate it. You are absolutely right in your assessment. Firstly, as you know, we rely 100% on volunteers to staff all aspects of the operation (it simply would not be economically viable to have even a small core of... More
