The building was built for Customs & Excise and was used as this until the 1980's. It is now home to the Ramsgate Visitor Centre, the Custom House Coffee Shop, a gallery and gift shop Nice Things and the RNLI shop. Ramsgate's Town Council have the first floor with the Mayor's Parlour and the Council Chamber, which is available for hire for dinners and parties. The building has been well restored and has most of its original features including the doors and ornate plaster mouldings.

We made our way over here to the gift shop which is lovely. There is a fairly ordinary looking café which supposedly doubles up as a gallery but there did not seem to be much on display. The reason it gets a poor rating from me is that it is not a friendly place. There is a sign prohibiting anyone... More

The little shop is charming, a lovely little find and you can't help but pop in when you walk past as the staff are so friendly. Unfortunately I've had a terrible experience with the cafe/restaurant there, so can't rate that part, but the shop (s) are a little treat.

Hello Danniit I own the little shop Nice Things in the Custom House, so I'm really glad that you liked it and my collection of things, on your visit. I'm sorry you had a problem though in other areas and hope it won't put you off coming along again one day. Best wishes Suzy More

This restaurant is hidden away at the rear of custom house but don't walk past without popping inside first for a lovely cup of coffee, breakfast, lunch or dinner. The owners are charming and go out of there way to make you welcome, your dog is also welcomed with a nice fresh bowl of water. Breakfast was lovely and cooked... More

'Nice things' is a fantastic little shop full of handmade treasures from local artists, located in this charming building directly opposite Ramsgate's beautiful harbour. Artwork, jewellery, textiles,... absolutely spoilt for choice with prices ranging from just a few pounds, where better to shop if you are visiting sunny Ramsgate by the sea! : )

Have reviewed the Old Custom House café already (and very nice it was too), but here you also have a (hugely expensive) little craft shop, which did have some nice things, but was way too pricey, and an RNLI shop. Also has local info where you can get a free map of Ramsgate and so on.

Hello, I saw your review of my shop and the RNLI, as part of the Custom House little complex. I'm concerned that you felt my shop was so overpriced and if you can spare a minute or two, it would be very helpful if there's something you remember in particular that gave this response. Working directly with makers is different... More
