- Debby JRamsgate, United Kingdom146 contributionsDover is doing it right .Bored with lockdown I decided to take a short drive to Dover to get my daily exercise . Parking was easy and I managed to find a free parking space . Had a leisurely walk in the sunshine along the seafront . Lots of families enjoying the pebble beach , picnics, swimming etc , all nicely distanced and safe . Got a lovely takeaway coffee from the hotel . Took a walk out along the harbour walk to see the cruise ships . Dover is having lots of regeneration, lots of buildings being updated . Lovely paved walkway and shelters all along the seafront. Beautiful marina also being built. Thank you Dover for lifting my spirits during the Coronavirus.Visited June 2020Traveled soloWritten June 26, 2020
- Ziggy1973London, United Kingdom327 contributionsPerfect Post Covid GetawayIf it’s a large beach, with lots of shops, arcades, rides and fish and chips kiosks, then this is not the place for you. Dover Beachfront is small, quiet and very pleasant. It’s a pebble beach. There is one ice-cream place that serves simple food too. And no bars. There is a hotel opposite the beach where you can get a drink. And a small, simple pier. It’s the perfect place for a calm and quiet day by the water. We loved it!Visited August 2020Traveled with familyWritten August 23, 2020

We were recently in Dover looking for things to do other than the castle.
We parked in town and walked to the beach which wasn't to far.
We enjoyed the stroll and got some go photos of the ferries coming and going.
There are some interesting statuses along the beach front .
It was a nice walk for a bit of excerize.

I took the High Speed Train from St Pancras to Dover on 13 September, and cycled from Dover Priory to this beach in Dover town centre, just below Waterloo Crescent/Marine Parade. It is a beach of steep shingle, clean, with calm water. It was a very hot day and I was delightfully surprised by the warmth of the sea water. With my digital thermometer, I measured the sea temperature as a fantastic 21°c. I was swimming at Studland Bay in Dorset a week before and I recorded the sea temperature there as 23°c. I didn't expect either place to have such warm water.
The beach was fairly busy, but enough room for everyone. Two other ladies were swimming and they both agreed with me as to how lovely the water was. You can watch a lot of the ferries going in and out and there are inexpensive restaurants and ice creams shops nearby.
The water does become deep fairly quickly, but owing to the harbour walls and the groynes, the water was calm. There was not a lifeguard, however.
This makes a great day out from London on the High Speed train (return ticket from St Pancras to Dover Priory £28, duration 1hour and 4 minutes). A little later, I cycled from Dover to Deal and then onwards to Ramsgate, Broadstairs and finished off at Margate. I really liked all the towns, each with their own individual character. You can, of course, catch the train back to London from Margate if you buy your ticket from London to Margate (and it's perfectly okay to alight at Dover Priory). The cycle ride is quite long, mostly flat after Deal, but with a very steep hill out of Dover. The beauty of the Kent railway lines is that you are never far from a railway station if you want to let the train take the strain on some of this bike ride.
Swimming at the other beaches was also a delight: the water temperature at Deal, near the pier, was also an excellent 21°c, and at Ramsgate there is a lovely sandy beach, although it was a little windy there. Water temperature at Ramsgate beach was 21°c. Viking Bay in Broadstairs is a true delight: an old-fashioned family resort with Italian ice cream parlours, shops selling buckets and spades, and a few fish n chip shops, and a wonderful curve of sand and calm sea for swimming. Further along, there are some lovely semi-urban beaches at Margate where you can swim in peace and quiet. Again, the water temperature here was an excellent 22°c. Whilst this latter part of the Kent coastline is quite built up, it's still offers lovely pockets of quiet beach away from the masses. I'd recommend to anyone a cycling trip around the Kent coastline, using the excellent South Eastern Trains High Speed service from London St Pancras.

I had lovely day at Dover beach! It's so beautiful and peaceful! It has some lovely history and you really feel part of it, walking along the beach and pier. From the pier you can see so many beautiful sights all around. The only let down was the service in the cafe at the end of the pier. Lady was very unwelcoming and didn't feel relaxed whilst having our food.

The breakwaters protecting the port of Dover are huge and finding this beach cut off from the town by the busy A20 was a surprise. There's not much here apart from elegant 19th century apartments which adds to the magic of this place.

Went for a walk along Dover Seafront today. What a lovely place but..... we had to dodge 10, yes I counted them, 10 piles of dog poo.

Dover beach was a pleasant surprise. I expected the peaceful waves (at the right time of year), but did not expect the expanse and welcoming scenery. From the beach area, you can see the cruise ships departing, the constant bustle of the ferries, and the numerous visitors and birds. And of course, you can see the famous White Cliffs from several angles.
You can view all this from the sandy beach, or from the well-designed swirling concrete walkway.

Went for a walk along the front with family who live in the area. stopped for food on the seafront. They are building a new marina and doing lots of changes and improvements to the area. about time, its been a bit down as an area for many years and needs to be improved.

The area seemed to be undergoing some construction/refurbishment and hopefully some revitalization when we were there. The beach is clean and just beautiful. We were amazed at how busy the port is and loved watching the ferries make their way in and out of port. The view of the Cliffs were beautiful and so close to be able to hike the Cliffs and the beach area. The restaurants near by have great food and great service. I would recommend visiting this beautiful part of England.

A good way to spend some time and relax by the sea. Very short trip from London by train it can be done in one day as a break free of the big city walls. Good food at affordable prices nearby.
Rating can not be compared with Mediterranean or exotic beaches. Let's say 4/5 of UK beaches!

Quero aproveitar o feriado aqui na Inglaterra do dia 6 para viajar. No último feriado fui a Liverpool, sensacional. Pensei agora em ir pra Dover, mas estou sozinha e irei de trem. Recomendam o feriado todo ou outro lugar?

Can you walk from the castle to the beach? Is there a path you can walk from the castle? I'll be there in April. I'll be coming for the day from London and from what I understand I have to take a cab from the train station to the castle. Any advice is greatly appreciated.

You can walk from the seafront to the castle it is not very far but it is quite steep. If you are averagely fit it will take about 20 minutes.
