I just did the 5 day competent crew course over two weekends in June 2021 and can’t recommend 'Elite Sailing' highly enough. I chose Elite because it was super easy to get to from London (40min away) and because my husband who passed the day skipper course there couldn’t stop raving about the whole experience and the amazing people he met.. I felt quite nervous at the beginning since I had never done any sailing before… I finished the course with flying colors and so confident about my new skills… We were five students on the yacht (a very International little group both times which was super fun) all with different levels of skills and experience!!!! The instructors brilliantly tailored made their delivery for each of us… The most valuable part of the course for me personally are Elite’s AMAZING instructors…To be honest they make the trip. Meet Sam, a lovely lady, fantastic teacher, mother of three and so so very passionate about sailing, she was practically born on a boat, a highly qualified instructor with a wealth of knowledge… Meet Mark, where should I start.. The highlight of my first sailing journey… A fantastic people’s person with superb teaching skills… One thing is to know your stuff and have exceptional sailing experience another is to know how to pass it on.. He is an exceptional teacher, who inspires confidence and with the most friendly, considerate, encouraging, patient, sensitive, relaxed, generous and funny personality… it was just perfect.. He loves his job and it shows!! With his tons of funny stories, we all laughed the whole weekend through… What a joy it was , we all had the most sublime time together which made the learning super easy … A really fun and memorable experience that I would highly recommend to anyone!! Hope our paths cross again!! Merci a toute l’equipe c’etait formidable!!! Ali x PS: Elite is a fantastic sailing school run by passionate people , their yachts are lovely and super well maintained!!

I am so glad my team and I were able to provide you with a boat handling course which you found useful and relevant. Handling a yacht under power in close proximity to other moored vessels is an essential skill that can be overlooked or not given sufficient emphasis during sailing courses. I will pass your comments onto the instructor.

Ironically I only found this school due to Covid - 19 as my original school has not opened this year but unlikely to go back having done numerous weekends this year with Elite and enjoyed them all. I have just come back from the second weekend of my Day Skipper and the instructor Callum was really good at explaining everything and so patient and enthusiastic with an almost Encyclopedic knowledge of sailing regulations and information. I would also recommend the "Mile Builder" which is totally different experience to a Training weekend but is a great opportunity to put some of that knowledge to practice onboard Tonic which is a great boat for long passages with Steve sitting quietly in the background but taking charge calmly when needed. Once my Day Skipper completed then my VHF Theory with Elite and then back to training weekends working towards my Coastal so I think another "Mile Builder" is definitely on my list to do again.

Great experience completing my day skipper with Elite. Booking was simple and helpful throughout, welcome was great, course and instructors were spot on. I had not sailed for some years but very quickly got back up to speed (i was studying my theory which helped) and came away with my Day Skipper. Still a lot to learn, but got to get miles under my belt now. The only thing we could have improved was the weather! One weekend of storms the other weekend was light breezes.

Watching the weather forecasts I was really thinking this might not be the best time to finally do the practical. I wanted to get some bad weather experience anyway with a good skipper so pressed on and that’s exactly what we got. Our skipper Brian was brilliant - extremely experienced, a good laugh, and introduced us to realistic passage planning, cooking toasties at extreme angles, sailing sideways into the teeth of a force 8 and some nice warm pubs in Pin Mill and Queenborough. Pictures show there were good days in a widespread mad weather week in December - and the boat was warm. Also included a pic so Brian knows I’ve clocked what a properly flaked mainsail should look like. Thanks - has got me well past the theory and back into sailing after 15 years. Recommended.
