We didn’t go in but this gate is a local landmark and photogenic, close to the river and Westgate Gardens.

Hosted by an extremely helpful guide, this is a cheap but very informative visit. Climbing to the top of the tower gives 360 panorama of Canterbury and you get the chance to stroke the resident cat (there's two but the other isn't friendly.....) The museum is interesting and gives a good history of the use of this oldest medieval town gate still remaining in England. But the cabinet displays are unmarked and frustrating - they don't really tell you much. But the guide is great and has a great knowledge of the Towers and of Canterbury history generally. The tour of the old jail is interesting and makes you wonder at the barbarity of early prisons and those that operated them.

We spent less than an hour here, as it is small - but very interesting, with a history of the tower throughout its varies roles as place of defence, prison, music school, and some letters describing life for the inmates of the prison... (hmmm...a single bucket with no privacy, shared by all the prisoners, male and female?) Good views from the rooftop. Well worth a visit (and only £4 to get in...bargain!)

We finally got around the walking up the Tower instead of around it. Plenty of steps in the spiral staircase to the bridge which takes you to the museum which was once a Gaol. Informative Guide and £2 for adult entry. Although if we had visited a lot earlier I noticed it used to be 2d on a sign. Fantastic views over Canterbury once you ascend the second staircase to the roof. Accessed through the entrance of the Pound Restaurant / Bar. This is also an escape room venue. Well worth a look if you only do it once.

Did this on spur of the moment. Absolutely brilliant. Room guide extremely knowledgeable with the history of the building, he made it interesting for the short time we were there. There are some stairs to climb to the roof area, and some taking you down to a room below, but worth doing. Really enjoyable. Oh, and only cost £2 each as renovations going on! Fabulous visit. Thank you.
