A little bit challenging to see at the moment due to on going work. Careful observation and you can see its detail.

We just need to all look up a little bit more.... there's so much above our heads that we all walk past, and we miss out on so much!

For anyone who’s been to Durham Cathedral it is a place of absolute architectural splendour but ALWAYS messed up with scaffolding that makes it ugly. Really ugly. A photographers nightmare!!

The same for this beautiful gate - Durham syndrome. Splendour and majesty gone to the dogs.

An impressive entrance to the cathedral! Was quite busy as there were a few educational institution pupils gathered in front of the gate. The ticket kiosk for the famous Canterbury cathedral is located exactly under the Christ church gate.

Built in the early 1500s to honour the marriage of Prince Arthur to Catherine of Aragon, Christ Church Gate leading from the Buttermarket to the Cathedral is very impressive. Completely covered in stunning stone carving, with towers rebuilt in 1937 and a large bronze statue of Christ erected in 1990.

Christ Church Gate is indeed magnificent — but you won’t be able to see it properly until summer 2021. As one of the last projects in the major restoration work on the cathedral, the gate is now laced with scaffolding and the statue of Christ has been removed for safekeeping. Details of this can be found on the Canterbury Cathedral website (see “What's On — News”).

This is a very beautiful gate leading to the cathedral precincts. It is well worth stopping to look at it. I pass it most days but never cease to look up at it. Of course it is also worth going through it into the cathedral precincts if you have the time.

The structure is an impressive entry to the Canterbury Cathedral. The carvings are beautiful and it takes a few minutes to absorb all the artistic elements. It is located in a square that gets very crowded at times.

The modern bronze statue of Christ was erected in 1990 to (at last) replace a medieval one torn down by Puritans in the 17th century. Now that it's been returned to its niche, you the full effect of the gate's splendour!

The restoration of Christ Church Gate has now been completed and you can see it in all its glory. The statue of Christ that goes in the central niche will be put back soon.

The entire structure is covered by scaffolding and will be so for the next 2 years but you can see the wooden doors which date back around 450 years.
