My friends and I go there often and always have fun talking to the bar staff. Good value for money and general atmosphere is great. Especially with a warm toasty fire around.

My favourite pub in canterbury! Always a good atmosphere with friendly bar staff. Never any trouble in there just good people having a good time. Dukebox is pretty decent too i found some pretty obscure hip hop on there. Once everyone was wasted and we all danced on tables topless including some overweight hairy viking looking dudes.

We made an impromptu stop Bank Holiday Monday in the evening. Had eaten out then popped into the Black Griffin..... regretnot going in sooner as it was the best part of our day. I travel extensively with work and times with my special one are rare but thanks to David Shepherd (Acoustic Singer) and Sian on the bar.... it going to be my 'must always visit' when in Canterbury. Thanks guys for all you did... lots of love x

We came here for a quiet drink on our day in Canterbury, this is nice historic pub with plenty of alternative character and quirky design. The drinks are very reasonably priced but staff service could have been a little more positive and helpful.

We had a drink outside and we were very fortunate to sit outside as there are only a few tables. The girl behind the bar was very helpful and the pub inside looked very cosy.

Despite being rather large and centrally located on the high street, this pub is surprisingly difficult to miss. I only noticed that it was there after my pub map told me it was!
Inside the orange building, the friendly barmaid treated us to a knowledgeable talk through the many ales they had on offer, and then let us have a sample of a few. The back room of the pub was bigger than the front, though less empty in its space with a larger selection of seating areas. The Game of Thrones themed pinball table was also a welcome addition.
It is a shame that we could not spend longer in this pub; I would certainly return. Prices were reasonable, and the variety and choice of the different ales on offer was quite formidable: I would not be surprised if they had one of the largest number of ale taps of all the pubs in Canterbury.

For some reason, we were into exploring different sjots, and the Bartenders at the Black Griffin were up to the task. I would recommend the squashed frog and the Skittles if you like sweet ones.
I did have a generational moment as the young bartenders were not familiar with a Black and Tan (Guiness and lager) Google came to the rescue, and we were in it!

Good spot for a few drinks and seemed to have some decent music and offers on various nights.
Stick to what you know though, they have a cocktail list but not sure that the bar staff really have much idea of whats what with cocktails! our Cosmopolitan had the loads of ice with a couple of spirits dumped in and then topped up with half a pint of cranberry juice in a half pint glass - very poor to the point its quite funny, made a refreshing drink though!
