About
A fine pub with a village feel in the heart of St Dunstan's. The beer garden is the best kept secret in town! Good Beer, Good Food, Good Times.

A great pub to watch the rugby this weekend! Staff really friendly and accommodating. A great place to settle in for a few pints.

A great start to our Canterbury trip. Great vegan choice
Sep 2021 • Couples
The vegan hotdog with vegan mustard was great. A great choice of ales. The 50's and 60's music in the background was the perfect backdrop. Well done to all the staff.

Lovely chilli & nachos- good ale
Oct 2020 • Couples
This pub was friendly and very clean, constantly cleaning the tables during this awkward time.
Hubby said they had good ale. Not a flashy place, just relaxed and friendly local. Thanks for a good first night in Canterbury.

Near The West
Jan 2020 • Friends
We had lunch on a Sunday here with friends. They do not do Sunday roasts which we had thought was the case when looking on their website. They have an everyday menu plus specials. I enjoyed a home cooked style chicken stew. The ale is well kept and the pub is steeped in history. Service was good and there was a lovely atmosphere ...until a party arrived with children, which caused us to finish our drinks and depart. We arranged to meet there for a catch up and it is very close to Canterbury West Station .

Sunday Lunch
Oct 2019 • Family
Popped in for a Sunday Lunch. Great friendly service in a traditional pub atmosphere. Food was good value and they even fed our dog. Would definitely eat in again. Thank you.

Awful experience - poor food - offensive behaviour
Aug 2019 • Couples
My wife and I popped in for a meal as they use a local butcher and we guessed the meat would be good. There were no chops, chicken etc on the menu so it didn’t make that much difference and we ordered fish and chips. It was pretty ordinary. My fish was quite small and broken in half. The chips were nothing special. My wife had a pud that had clearly been taken from packet to microwave. The worst of it was that two men were sitting at the bar talking loudly and punctuating their conversation with effing this effing that clearly within earshot of all the bar staff and the customers. The bar staff kept looking over at them with each swearword but no one said a word to try to prevent them. We paid and left as quickly as possible. I explained we were leaving quickly to avoid the foul language and one of men followed my wife and I down the road with a stream of disgraceful language. The pub staff did nothing and are probably still serving them. Avoid this place like the plague; they don’t deserve a licence.

You ate all the food, thanked my staff and then proceeded to assault one of my customers. The footage on 4 CCTV cameras tell a very different story. You shoved that person out the pub. You slammed him into a parked vehicle. You pushed him and then grabbed him by the throat and slammed him against the wall. Not once, while you ate ALL your food, did you say anything, attract my staff - even when she collected your plates and brought you the menu, about language, behaviour or quality of the food. You sir are an arrogant bully and do not deserve to be served anywhere, especially in Canterbury. Your image is being sent to all the pubs and restaurants. I will keep the recordings of the CCTV footage should the person you assaulted want to speak to the police. Myself, staff and customers will never want to see you here or anywhere in Canterbury again. Good Day to you.

Great vegan meal
Jun 2019 • Couples
I had a vegan beetroot burger in a vegan beetroot roll, with salad and chips. I don't normally eat burgers but gave this a try. Lovely meal, great atmosphere, friendly landlord. I would recommend the pub and the meal. I will go there again. will go a again.

Very poor
Feb 2019 • Solo
Drowned the salad with dressing everyone knows it should be a pot on side for customer to choose level required. Beetroot burger from a packet not ‘locally sauced ingredients’ as for the waitress in no uniform at all but a dirty Adidas top serving the plate then walking off scratching her arse and pulling jeans back up put me right off! The only reason it wasn’t zero star was that the German bar girl was lovely.

I’m am surprised that you found a drizzle of vinegrette “drowning” if you had concerns you should have mentioned it in the first place. Our Beetroot Burgers come from a reputable vegan company and very well received by all. We are put off by people who are to scared to talk to Management but hide behind callous little comments on this site. Frankly we rather you don’t return and keep your snide comments to yourself. Good day!!!

Great traditional pub!
Nov 2018 • Friends
The Unicorn offers everything a traditional pub goer could ask for - great beer and even better home cooked food. The kitchen may not offer as much as your local Wetherspoons but what do you expect for a small local pub? The beer (ale) is always changing with local breweries and some from further afar making an entry every now and again. To top it off the bar staff are very helpful and friendly. I could not recommend this pub any more - it’s a must visit if you’re ever in Canterbury!
