About
Travel with "Chaucer" and his band of pilgrims from the Tabard Inn in London to Canterbury Cathedral. Our costumed characters will introduce you to what is arguably the most famous collection of tales written in Medieval Britain. The handheld audio guide will then lead you through our stunning recreation of medieval England and lead you into five of Chaucer's most loved tales. These are tales of unrequited love, attempts at cheating death, bawdy infidelity and the chance to discover what every woman wants. . .Still as engaging for today's audiences as they were 600 years ago. Laugh with us and learn with us! The Canterbury Tales visitor attraction is the only attraction in the UK dedicated to this famous piece of English literature and is an essential addition to any Canterbury itinerary. Foreign language audio guides are available, as is a children's version (toning down the rather bawdy nature of the tales).

Based on the information found on their website, this attraction is now definitely closed (July 2020).

A wonderful live theatre experience that immerses you in Kent’s history and prosr

The stories and sets are immersive down to the colour, lighting and the smells of history... it’s a lovely experience to appreciate, if you give it a chance! Chaucer’s work on the Canterbury Tales is world famous and studied to this very day in literature, and this attraction in Canterbury has brought that ancient literature that influenced hundreds throughout our history to life for 35 years. The staff are always very helpful and there is a great range of languages for audio guides, including automatic English audio guides as you go around. The actors are enthusiastic and great for the kids. The gift shop is full of cute and interesting little history Knick knacks that both I and the kids loved. I recommend it and wouldn’t want Canterbury to be without it.

Helps bring the book to life. There’s dioramas and all sorts of exhibits to explore. I enjoyed this but it’s not for everyone.

I took visitors from Helsinki along and they said it was an excellent exhibition and that they thoroughly enjoyed how the story was presented. They would highly recommend it to young and old. Staff also was very helpful and gave all the information needed to make it a good day out.

Well done
Aug 2019
We really enjoyed this. Knew some of the tales before we went in but not all of them. Found they were very well told. Fun, available in a family version, too.

Rather crowded entranceway. In fact the first time we went they turned us away as that day's tours were full. Paid. Offered headphones in a choice of different languages, including expurgated English for kids. Costime guide led us into the first couple of scenes. After that the whole thing was automatic, inviting us to the next scene by opening doors, pacing us through the wjole experience.

Voice in our headphones told the story. Scenery to walk into, then Animatronic-like figures illustrating the action. Very entertaining stories. Neatly packaged. "Authentic" smell. Everyone had a good time. Ended with a gory re-telling of Tomas-a-Becket's murder.

We were supposed to be able to get into a garden display with the same ticket, but it was closed.

Nothing memorable
Dec 2019 • Couples
Thought it was a bit of old tosh really, and not worth the money. Just lead around a series of rooms with a sound recording going off. All instantly forgettable.

If you don’t go, you won’t miss anything and will save £11 or however much it was!

Was really looking forward to this but as someone who struggles with mobility I really struggled to get around no nearly enough seats or time to sit or catch breath

Learned a lot and helped explain relevance of Canterbury
Dec 2019
45 minutes well spent, helped put into perspective Chaucers Canterbury Tales by visiting a number of rooms in this old converted church, each room having a summary tale recounted.

Exactly what we expected
Dec 2019 • Couples
Great thing to do to pass an hour while in Canterbury. Each room has a different tale told in a different way using some interesting 'special effects'. Some models were a little dated but it didn't detract from the overall experience.
Storytellers/staff were excellent. They were engaging and added great little details to the stories and to the history of pilgrimages to Canterbury.
