Start strolling through these well kept City Gardens from West-gate towers and enjoy the beautiful riverside park and ruins. Keep going and the park becomes more and more rural and you become a rambler on a riverside path. Keep going further and you arrive at Chartham where you can catch a train back to Canterbury West :)

Loved this place, so beautifully maintained, I had a little chat with the garden designer one summer and his flower boarders and lay out reflected his passion for this area. The ancient trees had me at a standstill quite breathtaking the river and gondola type boats with the ducks and birds on the river and the willow trees all making... More

The Westgate Gardens are open daily until dusk with free admission - they form a fairly narrow strip along the River Stour. They are a relatively quiet oasis just off the main North-South street through Canterbury, and are notable for a couple of highly unusual trees - especially a 200-year old oriental plane tree with a huge circumference at its... We walked along the Great Stour Way from Chartham and finished our walk at Westgate Gardens. This is a pleasant open space and whilst there wasn't much life in the Winter month of January it was still enjoyable.

The Westgate Gardens has plenty of formal and informal open spaces. There is much to see here and enjoy whole day. It has Toddlers Cove - once Canterbury's water park with swimming, paddling and boating pools. It also has a three mile path for walkers and cyclists, Tannery Field, a riverside meadow, and woodland besides Rheims Way. Excellent place to... More

Walk through it. Read on the remembrance monuments. Look at all the flowers and plants. Feel the touch of an English city park. Sit down and breath. What a feeling!

We spotted these gardens when doing the city wall walk. They are well maintained and perfect picnic areas for the warmer summer months. There was also a children's play area close by. Lovely to walk through whatever the weather.

It is worth taking a detour to walk through the Westgate Gardens for the Baobab Tree, lovely gardens and then under the bridge to Toddler's Cover where there are some beautiful pictures and poems.
