St George's Tower is located in the centre of Canterbury and is a focal point on the edge of Whitefriar's Shopping centre.
It looks a bit out of place as it is this ancient tower and there are all modern buildings around it. I believe it was part of a church that was destroyed during WW2 and this is all that remains.
There is a clock on the side of the tower so if you need to know the time this is perfect.

A cracking piece of history, we found plenty whilst walking the city centre.
A great clock tower which reminded me of the one located in Saint Albans.
I noticed a few seats under the archway too.

You will find this medieval tower on the main pedestrian street. At one time part of the fortifications of the city, now an old landmark, one of the best in this popular town.

This tower was once part of a church. All that exists now is the tower. It’s a pretty cool piece of history and it’s nice that it still exists.

We walked passed this tower a few times. There are a couple of plaques but not a huge amount of information other than Christopher Marlowe was baptised in the church that used to be attached.

The church of St. George;s stood in the middle of town for over 400 years, until the night of June 1st 1942. On that night the middle of the city was heavily bombed. A church as been here since the 1200's. The tower is what is left of the medieval gothic church from 1400's. The tower was added around that time period. It stood within the west nave. The tower was all that could be saved for this church. The walls where demolished in 1955. A commemoration plaque is there to tell about the night go the bombing raid.

Only the tower remains of St Georges Church after bombing in World War Two. Has been left as a monument. However there is seating under it providing Shelter, it is also famed as being the Church Christopher Marlowe was Christened.
