I've been to utopia spa quite a few times so decided that for my hen spa day we would go here as we could all sit outside & use the pool & hot tub & relax in the loungers. We had the afternoon delight package which was afternoon tea, 40 min treatment & use of the spa. We had our afternoon tea when we arrived and that was nice i then went off for my treatment which again was nice but when i came back to my party i found out that one therapist had phoned in sick which i get isn't utopias fault but there was 8 of us wanting treatments with only 1 therapist!! Then i found out that we couldn't use the pools or hot tubs as they were green & when one of my party wiped her hand round the outside hot tub it came out covered in algae. When the manager was told about this he said it was fine & clean but people get in the pool without showering ( i have never heard of people making the water go green before) As we didn't want to all sit around in the bar all afternoon while we went one by one for treatments we left. Very upset that my hen weekend was ruined by this & the manager didn't care. We did get back part of our deposit but that was hard work. This used to be be a lovely spa so not sure what has happened.

‘Utopia - an imagined place or state of things in which everything is perfect.’

Well I can say it’s far from being perfect...
Four of us arrived in the afternoon for a chill out day at the spa, £14.95 per person. On arrival, the staff were very friendly, but having paid, we weren’t told the outdoor jacuzzi wasn’t in use, which was disappointing as it was nice weather and wanted to spend some time outside. After having got changed in the small, and slightly dated, changing rooms we went outside. My first thoughts were ‘it’s looking rather run down now’. The outdoor furniture was looking a bit tired, the nice black and white tiles they used to have had gone and the general look of it was just a bit shabby.
If I could offer some pointers to the manager it would be: clean up the place, get some new furniture outside, get the jacuzzi working, get some pots of pretty flowers to brighten it up, and get rid of those green algae ridden plastic banner things on top of the wall - they look unsightly. Other than that the indoor area wasn’t too bad, although the water in the pool looked a bit cloudy.
On a last note - can I also suggest you lose those glass cabinets of tatty junk, it’s very out of place and just cheapens the look of the hotel.
I definitely won’t be returning anytime soon, unless of course you can make some huge improvements and your TripAdvisor ratings are well above average!

· First of all on approaching the hotel the driveway was scruffy, full of weeds with an old car dumped outside. No hangers in wardrobe, these were replaced after we enquired. Room was dirty, a lack of good housekeeping. It needed hoovering. The inside of the bed was covered in hair. Light switch cover was broken with wires showing. Tea cups were washed after we had used them but saucers and spoons were left dirty. When we asked for 2 spa towels we were given one and told the others were in the drier and they would bring one to our room when they were dry. This never happened, the next day we asked again and were given a small towel being told the rest were still in the laundry. The Jacuzzi outside was not in use and the hot tub was covered. The inside spa pool was not very warm and a bit murky. The hotel needs investment for people to return and recommend. We will not be be returning.
Pay a bit more and stay elsewhere.

I have been to the utopia spa at melville hall hotel lots of times before and i have never had any problems but i visited today and was very disappointed. In the spa the water in the hot tub and the swimming pool were very yellow and very smelly. The water smelt stale. There were clumps of fluff, slime, hair and general dirt floating in the water. The smell was awful. The floors were all grubby especaily in the changing room. There was rubbish on the floor in the changing room and it was generally dirty all around everywhere. I told the manager i wasnt happy with my experience and asked for my money back. His response was that someone had not showered before using the pool and the water was tested this morning and was apparantly okay. I am so disappointed and really want my money back. I will not be visiting again. I think the spa should not be open while it is in that poor condition. The young lady that was on reception was polite helpful and friendly. The manager wasnt rude but wasnt helpful either he just said he would test the water later tonight when the spa is empty and call me with that water results. Overall the whole place needs a deep clean and has gone down hill in standards recently, im guessing since it has been under new managment.

I have been to this spa a few times over the years and take my mum for a pedicure and to use the outdoor hot tub. Twice now the hot tub has not been working. I asked the manager if we could have a discount to just the indoor pool for 30 mins and was told no. Well £15 plus £3 for a towel is extortionate and I will be taking my custom elsewhere

I booked a couple of treatments for my mother’s 50th birthday as I was visiting the island and wanted to treat her. I’d already had issues over the phone trying to book as the lady had booked the wrong manicures. Upon calling her back she explained she had booked an alternative as the therapists I’d need for the one I wanted wouldn’t be available. Even though I understood the situation she explained, I was baffled as to why this would not have been explained to me on the phone as opposed to doing it without informing me.

Upon arriving, my mother and I immediately noticed the tacky and run-down decor, including a huge glass cabinet full of cheap rubbish you’d find in seaside front shops. We were shown the spa facilities consisting of a small pool with green water. One look and we both knew we weren’t going in there. I kept asking where the head massages would be done and for some reason this was too hard-a-question to answer and I kept being told where the manicure station and the spa pool were. Already unhappy, I asked my mum if she’d like to leave. I hadn’t yet paid as the lady on the phone said we would pay after. Mum said she thought it could still be a brilliant massage even though it didn’t look great and we should give it a chance but I could tell she was as disappointed as I.
I was then asked to pay and we were over charged as they had given me day-passes for the facilities that I didn’t ask for nor want. They then refunded my card payment after a lot of faffing by cash because no one knew how to use the card machine. Apparently the “refund option was blocked” on the machine. Right...

I had also asked for our massages to happen at the same time. Every other spa I have ever been too would have put us in the same room. We were then put into two different rooms despite my mother’s having two beds inside. I couldn’t relax as the fun of the day had been ruined but I will say the scalp massage was very thorough and gentle. It would seem my mother and I had to very different experiences however. The treatment should last 25 mins and my mum’s had been cut 5 minutes short. We both noted the times as we went into the rooms and came out as we suspected this would be a problem. After speaking to my mum, what she experienced was merely oily hair-play, lots of twisting and tugging as opposed to scalp massaging as I experienced. Seeing the disappointment and how uncomfortable she looked on her face was enough for me to be desperate to get out.

Our manicure wasn’t for another hour so I suggested we leave and get some lunch and rethink the manicure. Gutted as this was meant to be her 50th gift from me and £118 out of pocket I called and left a voicemail explaining we wouldn’t be back for our manicures as we were not satisfied at all with the service and would like only the money back for the treatment we wouldn’t be using.

No one called me back so I called again shortly after and asked for a manager. He wasn’t available at the time but did call me back not long after. I explained I was grateful for his initial help in the confusion but I wanted my money back. All he kept repeating was they don’t do refunds, only cancellations within 48 hours notice. How on earth was I meant to know the spa would be so rubbish 48 hours before stepping inside?! I tried to remain calm but at his insistence that my mother DID receive her 25 mins and that they “do not do refunds” I lost my temper. This Argos-style of spa treatments, making someone pay before and then refusing to acknowledge that the massage was rubbish and I no longer want your services, is a robbing and nasty way of tricking people of their money. He actually hung up on me when I said he was a bad manager. I stand by it. As a manager myself in high end treatments in London, I would never, ever hang up on a client no matter how mad they are and I would never ever let a client leave my company without appeasing them. It was her birthday and there was no offer of a complimentary drink or tea, no special extra 2 minutes, absolutely nothing and then seeing how upset we both, were he hangs up on me and robs me of £44.

A disgusting place I absolutely advise no one goes because they don’t care if you’re happy or not once they already have your money.

We decided to go and use the spa facilities but they were disgusting.

The indoor pool was cold and had a greasy film on top.

The jacuzzi had what can only be described as matter floating in it and was also cold.

Detox box stank and didn’t work properly.

Outdoor pool filthy, big empty hole where the outdoor jacuzzi was and a make shift hot tub shoved in the corner which was agin cold!

It smelt damp and dirty in there and my friend who was wearing one of the robes supplied by them had yellow stains on the armpits!

We were in there for ten minutes and decided to leave and ask for a refund.

The manager was absolutely vile and pointed out that there was a sign specifying NO REFUNDS! People have obviously been unhappy and asked for their money back before.

He was incredibly rude and personal. I can see from his replies to some of the reviews that he clearly has no intention of acknowledging the complaints of members of the public that work hard to afford a break away. Absolute joke! He also likes to use slander to add insult to injury!

I understand that times are hard and there is obviously money lacking but why run a hotel and basically rob people blind if your facilities are not up to scratch. False advertising!

This place needs shutting down and environmental health should pay a visit.

I look forward to seeing the manager/owners response. I need a good laugh!

Oh, dear. Dirty; tired facilities. Indoor jacuzzi had flaky ‘matter’ floating in it with strange odour (not chlorine). Outdoor hot tub not on and sauna not up to temperature. We waited 30 minutes to speak about a refund - and were then treated with defensive; passive aggressive behaviour from the ? owner who then banned us. As if we would even contemplate returning. Note to self - always check reviews on here first. My daughter booked this as a treat as we had been through a particularly stressful time and she was, quite rightly, very upset. It appears, looking at the previous reviews, that sadly nothing has moved on - which it won’t until the owner takes responsibility and admits the shortcomings of this venue. Had he dealt with it in a different manner, I would not be writing this review now but he had his chance.

A present from my mother in law during a holiday on the island, and i will never ever be returning.

We where phoned 5 minutes before treatment time to ask where about we was? arrived at the hotel with two people standing out waiting for us, (bit like being told off at school)

The lady who done my massage was the only good thing, she was lovely, but would say it was more of a rub than a massage, we where given a rob and slippers and had to walk through hotel reception in front of people, this was embarrassing.

Nobody showed us where about's the ''spa'' facilities where, the pool is to small to even swim in, the hot tub was freezing so we didn't use this either, thought we could try the sauna which took 30 minutes to even get warm!

After a train wreck me and my friend went to have lunch which was inclusive of the nearly £150 we had paid, nobody at all was around had to ask for staff several times, to then be charged for lunch! (which was nothing more than average at best).

We should of got goody bags as we left which didn't happen, i was fed up at this point, was not even at the ''spa'' 2 hours including treatments, avoid this place at all costs 35 minutes treatment for £129. Awful.

My wife and I have visited utopia once or twice a year for the past 7-8 years for massage treatments, sometimes taking mum along too for some massage therapy. The staff are lovely and the massages are always enjoyable. Usually we stick around to use the pool for a few hours and grab some lunch and a few drinks. This time we arrived and was told that if we want to use the pool, there is an additional charge of £18.95 per person, which includes rental of slippers and robes. On questioning why this had changed my wife was told the dreaded words, we are “under new management”. We are so disappointed as we feel this is an extortionate charge. To top it off, although the lady who did my treatment was lovely and the massage was very relaxing, the room I was in required maintenance and did not seem luxurious as you may expect. Also the lobby area had been filled with glass cabinets selling “tat”, resembling a budget hotel you may expect on a cheap all inc holiday abroad! It seems standards have dropped and prices have increased! We are so disappointed and will not return. There are several other places in the island offering these services without the additional charges, some of which have better facilities too. From now on we will be going to this places instead of utopia. I’m sorry guys, it’s been fun for many years, but I’m afraid feedback from us to the new management is “poor” work guys, must try harder!
