Nice place to visit!
Jul 2015 • Family
We visited West Cowes on a rather miserable day during our recent holiday to the Isle of Wight. We parked in a car park in the town centre, by the Post Office, which was free on the day of our visit. It makes for a lovely walk and boasts beautiful views along the coast and across The Solent. West Cowes is a bustling town with many lovely shops and Cafés, as well as a harbour. During our visit we purchased an Isle of Wight themed Monopoly – great fun! Well worth a visit!

Good off road route for bikes but IOW needs more that link up!
Jun 2014 • Friends
A nice way to get from Cowes to Newport by bike, but not many views of the Medina. If you want to link up with The Tennyson Trail you have to find your way through Newport's one way system and avoid being knocked off by taxi drivers opening their doors. Overall the IOW isn't very bike friendly, and most the locals on the shared paths were very unfriendly compared to those on the mainland. This is a shame!
It;s tricky to do any circular route without having to go on a busy road, especially to the east of the island.
Good points are that the ferries mostly take bikes free, and The Tennyson Trail is very nice - a lot like The South Downs Way.

Worth the walk
Jan 2013 • Friends
This is a pleasant way to get from Cowes to Newport or vice versa, with views of the river as you walk along. It is not ideal if your going shopping, but if you wanted to go to the Bargemans for a meal on a hot summer days it is good.

Lovely place for a walk
May 2013 • Couples
We went to Cowes over the recent Bank Holiday and walked all along this road. It was a great day out, healthy and invigorating. We loved the Isle of Wight and all it had to offer ...

Great Track for a Run
I use this track to run from Cowes to Newport and back. It measures 9 miles and is largely flat. The route is well signposted and is sheltered aling its entire path, with some lovely views across the River Medina.

Cycle Track
Tarmac track from Newport is easy to ride on, but as there are not many views, not so good for walkers. Walkers better to walk on the other side of the river, but some road walking would be necessary.

Recommended. Flat and off road. NB Newport to Sandown also recommended.
It is possible to cycle across the island from Cowes to Sandown with the only road bit being going across Newport.
