I’ve done this walk before but brought my wife this time. We started at the bottom of Hollywell Hill & walked by the river to Cottonmill Lane & crossed the road to carry on the walk. The walk takes you near to Sopwell Nunnery & The Alban Way. We came out in a field which we crossed to come out further down Cottonmill Lane. We then walked to Sopwell House & on to Verulam golf course. We took the bridle path that runs parallel to the 18th fairway & followed this all the way to Riverside Road & eventually on to London Road. The scenery along the way was very enjoyable.

Easy walking, well sign-posted, near the river and around the edges of town. Cows share some of the fields through which the footpaths pass, however, so watch your shoes.

This is another trail off of the Alban Way Cycle Route which leads from Hatfield to St Albans. I decided to ride my bike down the Alban Way Cycle Route from Hatfield and cut through to Verulamium using the River Ver Trail. Its really beautiful with a narrow, winding path alongside the River Ver which is covered in greenery and nature. I'm glad I decided to use this cut-through, but it was a bit difficult in places trying to wheel a bicycle along by hand (as it's not a cycle route!).
