Rubbish

Now closed, could never see it as a viable business, especially when it was hardly open. Failure never in doubt as far as myself and friends were concerned.

Drinks with friends
Aug 2016
I'd not been to this place before but a few friends met up for some drinks here. The atmosphere was nice and the staff were friendly and accomodating, even willing to make me a cocktail not on their list.

Nice
Jul 2016 • Friends
We popped in with friends at 7.30 before the masses had arrived. It is a nicely set out venue. We ordered a Pimms, GnT & 2 pints of London pale ale. There was no one else at the bar, which just as well as this order took a while!?!?! Initially the bartender couldn't find the pimms and then took a while to 'build it' while one of his colleagues just watched! I had to ask the colleague if he would mind pouring the pints while the pimms building job went on. The GnT was also a work of art including cucumber and juniper berries. The best she had ever had my friend said.
Nice drinks with great attention to detail. I would just worry if we were in a rush or it was busy.

.....have to say a few years ago The Brickyard was not even on the map
in StAlbans .... & now it's become one of StAlbans most popular bars!
Always a great atmosphere & friendly staff.....the manager is constantly clearing away glasses and attentive to all..... Cocktails are a must especially The Porn Star Martinis......well worth a visit if you have not been yet!

Profound Apologies
Apr 2016 • Friends
Please can I offer my profound apologies to the charming staff of this establishment. Sorry that me and my companions got in the way of you chatting/ booking your holidays through our pesky requests for drinks/ service. I am also really concerned that our conversation may have interfered with your ability to listen to the TALK RADIO feed that was blasting through the pub's hifi system throughout our visit.
Your lovely pub was empty, save for us, all night. Clearly this is your intention so I commend you on the strategy you are employing. The tactic of allowing patrons to purchase drinks at 1045 then asking them to leave at 1100 is particularly effective. This was the deal breaker for us and I can assure you we will never return. I will also urge everyone else I know to follow suit.

Stuart B, Many thanks for your whole hearted apologies to our charming staff and CONGRATULATIONS ON YOUR FIRST EVER REVIEW! Our customer’s safety is one of our highest priorities and as such we were invited to talk radio that evening to speak out about how our safety structure should be copied, to ensure the safety of people everywhere. In fact we take customer safety and your satisfaction so seriously that the world has taken notice. However, Stuart, we are aware that some men are less happy with this positive message and we are sorry that such an important world-wide message spoilt you talking with your male friends. I’m sure you are now aware that the brickyard St Albans has been praised globally (USA, Africa, Australia, and Germany, Italy, France, Hong Kong, Netherlands, Finland…) and by the last three Mayors of St Albans for our dating safety campaign. We are glad you were able to hear us interviewed live on Talk radio and you may have also seen us on Good Morning Britain or maybe streamed us live when we we’re on Radio South Africa, or German BigFM.de, Three Counties or West Midlands Radio. With so much praise about our customer service we have to take your comments with a small pinch of salt. Possibly with your acerbic prose you are attempting to be a wit, whilst seemingly only getting half way. The manager told you personally that “time” is at 10.45 and you had half an hour drinking up time. For the majority of customers this is plenty of time however if you find half an hour is inadequate maybe you shouldn’t have ordered.

Truth in advertising
Apr 2016 • Couples
The Brickyard, previously The Spotted Bull, is a revamped, very glitzy former pub. I suspect it does a roaring trade among young 20 - 30s on Friday and Saturday night. Lunch is, sadly, another matter.
It advertises 'ultimate burgers'. Well, if price is a guideline, they ought to be. The cheapest burger, 'Missionary' consists of a lean beef patty, two Portobello mushrooms, salad, tomato and onion - nothing else - for £6.80. The 'Butcher's Choice' adds cheese and bacon to make 'a decadent burger to suite (sic) the true connoisseur' for £9.50. To add chips and cole slaw is an additional £3.50; so not cheap.
If these really were ultimate burgers perhaps, but they're just okay burgers. Not bad, but not great either. What let's things down was the sweet potato and white potato chips - a bit on the soggy side - and the slaw - rough cut red cabbage mixed with mayo.
On a positive note, the service was great. We brought the dog in (to their credit very dog friendly) and the young lady who served us brought some water for the pooch.
This is a place for the young to go, have a good time, a few beers or cocktails and meet other young people. It is not a place to go for great burgers.

Stylish, friendly bar and a banging burger!
Mar 2016
Friends and I visited the last couple of weekends. Good atmosphere, modern decor and a great selection of cocktails. Staff were friendly enough with some good banter, we got served straight away and were recommended a few cocktails which went down easily. Also tried their burgers as was told they have a new chef and did not disappoint.
Would defo recommend to anyone looking for a good value for money lunch or for a decent night out.
