The Pioneer is a vital part of the community, run by the community. I've attended for skateboarding lessons for my kids, a proper concert in the music hall, and have even performed there at an open mic night. It's amazing and run by very friendly people who care deeply for it and know how important it is to the local community.

Friendly authentic skate park. No frills, it is what it is (which is great). Super friendly kids in there every time we have been. Don't think they take any nonsense and it shows. My 5 year old is never made to feel like he's too small or in the way despite it being a packed weekend session.
Ramps for every age. Have never seen bikes but scooters and skateboards is the norm.
I sit and watch from the viewing point. Bring your own drinks, food, a book etc and put aside a few hours!

This is a very friendly skate park with an indoor as well as outdoor area. The outdoor area has some genuine granite, concrete and paving giving it an Urban feel! My son - 8 loved it and we will be back!

Just had my first visit to the legendary St Albans Pioneer Club and Skate Park. We attended a (private) skate and scooter session for pre-school children – most were on scooters and had a fabulous time. The facilities look slightly underfunded, which is a shame as St Albans should really celebrate, and support, the existence of this club (i.e. provide it with some funding).
The Pioneer Club was founded by evacuee’s during WW2 and is now home to a home to a number of organisations. In the 1960’s a purpose built hall was constructed that provides a venue for new bands and has hosted performances by the likes Wishbone Ash, Motorhead, Argent, Shikari and TrashBoat.
In 1991 an old warehouse (next door) was converted into a skate park and Pioneer became home to the oldest indoor skate park in the UK - it has both an indoor and outdoor skate area and has the pro skater Rod Clarke as a trustee of the charity.
Well worth checking out if you are into skateboarding or live music.
