About
The Craft Gallery at the Old Mayor's Parlour will hold four exhibitions a year of emerging and established contemporary artists and artisans. A nine-day long event will be held in September to support hArt. This enables the building owned by the Church Street Charitable Trust to be open to visitors. Situated in a unique building with a distinctive moulded ceiling dating from 1605 which has been extensively refurbished in recent years. This is a limited access building due to it's age. There are steps into the building and stairs up to the Parlour.

This is a good small gallery space. It is upstairs you need to be mobile. Have visited often especially during h.Art

Gallery space

Newly restored - fabulous plaster ceiling. Up rickety stairs so not wheelchair friendly. Regularly changing exhibition space - hired by artists. Located in I think Hereford's most individually interesting street with the most little independent shops.

Thank you for your lovely review, and we agree it is a very interesting street in the Independent Quarter of Hereford as it retains as much of the character of the heritage buildings as modern retail and eating-out will embrace. We hope the stairs were not rickety! They are the only way up to the Gallery space that is true, but they are solid wood treads, with a corner turn in the two short flights. The size and accessibility at the building reflects it's historic age. We are working on some ideas using technology to enable those who are not able to use stairs to share the exhibition experience. Many exhibitors would also be pleased to bring pieces down to show and talk about them, but this does depend on the type of work on show! Contact would be direct with the exhibitor in advance of the event at present to arrange a time, so keep an eye on the What's On or sign up to the newsletter, to know who you'd like to arrange to see work from.

Parlour parlez
Nov 2015 • Couples
Let me tell you about the Old Mayor's Parlour in Church Street, Hereford. It has been a rainy November day and whilst visiting my wife's parents in Hereford we decided to make a visit into the city centre to do some pre-Christmas shopping.
The family had suggested that we visit the Old Mayor's Parlour, an exhibition space situated on the first floor of medieval building. The first floor gallery is rented out and the day of our visit there was a wonderful mix of contemporary paintings, sculpture and furniture by local artisans.
My understanding is that the exhibits change on a regular basis so it is worth making regular trips to see what is new. What won't change is the magnificent plaster ceiling which is a work of simple art in its own right.
We found the visit fascinating and especially so as we were able to talk with two of the exhibitors including Timothy Hawkins who had co-ordinated the exhibition on show.
It won't take long to visit the Old Mayor's Parlour if you are visiting Hereford but the experience of visiting a modern exhibition in such an old building dating from the 15th century is worthwhile.

We are so pleased that you enjoyed the visit. Thank you. Spot on that this historic building is a space for contemporary artists (from Herefordshire and beyond) to show their latest work. It is only open when exhibitions are on and we are currently putting together the programme for 2016 and beyond. Mailing lists can be joined from the website or Facebook page. We look forward to seeing you again on a return visit. The week long pop-up was indeed a fine display of furniture, 2-D and 3-D works. TImothy Hawkins Gallery at Bartestree houses work by the artists and artisans that you saw permanently. So do pop by and say hello to Audrey and Timothy there too.

Stunning architectural ceiling

Amazing historic building which regretfully isn't open very often. However it will be open 22 Aug - 5 Sept 2015 (every day) when an art exhibition is taking place. You will need to go up some stairs so is not wheelchair friendly - Free Entry. Is only a minute away from Hereford Cathedral so pop in if you are visiting there.

Gallery@OMP - Fantastic hidden gem, not to be missed.
Feb 2015 • Solo
This is a gallery residing in the most unique of settings nestled within the heart of Herefords 'Independent Quarter'. Church Street is not to be missed if you are visiting Hereford and i was lucky enough to visit the Old Mayors Parlour exhibition on the few occasions i have seen the sign out on the Street. The Gallery@OMP is a room of historical importance dating back to the 16th Century (possibly earlier) It now boasts an extensive renovation and original plasterwork decoration with freezes depicting the history of the City. Its not always open so its best to visit their web site or social media. www.oldmayorsparlour.co.uk Excellent food from Cafe underneath also.
