If you ever wondered what medieval England and Wales was like then visit Hereford Cathedral and the Mappa Mundi exhibition. A great historic document only second to the Magna Carter, this exhibition shows you what was perceived during this time as the World as they knew it. Pop along for refreshments too in the cafe, enjoy the homemade cakes and... More

A great exhibit of a long past era. What a privilege we now have to have such free access to all manner of books in our own homes, on digital media. Fascinating view of the known world on the Mappa Mundi. Loved the little skier in Norway!

What an incredible experience. Two separate exhibitions physically adjacent to one another which can be accessed for £5 or £6 per person (or £10 for families). Either exhibit alone would be worth at least that much for the information in history you gain during the visit. There are interactive exhibits, informative panels, and a modern English version of the Mappa... More

It's only about 5 foot in diameter, but given the age of the map, it's a fantastic piece of history. The cost was £6 for an adult, this is next to the cathedral, so do both sites together. There's information on the map and watch the short video. The chained library is also very interesting, but you can only admire... More

Worth looking at both items. Though frankly you can be in and out in 15 minutes and not miss anything. Bit expensive but they are unique.

The Chained Library is like a tiny Hogwarts. Mappa Mundi is brilliant, the exhibition very interesting and the cathedral cafe delicious.

The Mappa Mundi at Hereford Cathedral can only be described with superlatives: absolutely beautiful, truly amazing, brilliantly created. This medieval map describes the then-known world in terms of Christian understanding. Jerusalem is at the centre with Christ's resurrection as the focus. From the top of the map you see God and proceeding down you begin with Adam and Eve's expulsion... More
