Worth every penny

We have visited many times and it is always a great place with such a history, different guides give a different slant on the College and there is so much to learn

An independent boys school first set up in 14th century by William of Wykeham to provide an education for 70 poor scholars. The motto is 'Manners makyth man'. Now totalling 700 pupils the original buildings include a chapel with fantastic windows and as the pupil population grew so additional buildings surrounding the original school building were acquired. An hour tour... More

Winchester college is one of UK's oldest public schools and the tour includes several significant school buildings including the chapel, dining hall, and Georgian school hall. The tour takes about an hour and the tour guide was very knowledgeable, clearly spoken, mixing fact with interesting stories of the origin of the school and some of its traditions. The guided tour... What can I say about the Old College,it's a very interesting place indeed, what with private chapel, that have been used in films and a famous Author by the name of Anthony Trollop was once a pupil here...you will be taken on a guided tour, which is worth the time..

Decided at the last minute to do this tour on a visit to Winchester. No booking required. Just turn up at the Porter's Lodge about 20 minutes before time of tour. Guide was very knowledgeable and interesting. The whole college is steeped in history and the buildings date from 14th Century. The tour lasted for about 50 minutes. It is... More

Well I had no idea you could review a college. I spent the best weeks of my life here, studying how to make tamogotchi - sadly that hard work never led to career in ai pet design. I now work In hula hooping. They had a lovely tuck shop

Complete agreement with other reviewers, in that the (limited) guided tours of the College are excellent value, especially if free on the Heritage Weekend !. We were treated to a thorough and entertaining history of the College, its pupils and the benefactors and the others who made it what it is. See the only chapel built within a cloister, and find... I much enjoyed my two day stay in Winchester, but my tour of the College was undoubtedly the high point. There were just 3 of us on the tour and our guide was brilliant. The College buildings and grounds are quite magnificent, but I think it fair to say that the Chapel is the jewel in the crown. As the... More

We did book in advance for this and it was well worth it to see the beautiful and historic buildings and learn about the people who have worked and studied there. Our tour guide worked really hard to give us a brilliant experience. He had a fund of stories about the College and was a mine of information.
