Average pub grub, in the main
Jul 2021
Decent pub, which has recently spent a lot on converting to a Covid-compatible layout, with lots of outdoor seating. Midweek lunchtime - the service was good, the food on the whole was average pub grub. I had a white sandwich made with cut white bread. My husband had a reasonable burger and chips. My grandson had the veggie platter, which promised "beer breads"(plural) on the menu, and felafels, but only one beer bread materialised and there were NO falafels at all! Not good enough.

The Queen in Tier 2 Covid

Organisation and staff.
I have used this pub for years but this was my first visit in Covid times. I wanted a venue to meet with friends for a pre christmas lunch and beers. The organisation, logistics, staff attitude and quality of outdoor meeting was of the very highest quality.
I could not fsult them and would highly recommend a visit....wrap up warm and take advatage of the brilliant outdoor area with heater and lights...superb.

Really great pub!

We stopped for an un-planned lunch after a nice walk along the water meadows. We didn’t realise they did roasts before we arrived, as it wasn’t on the menu online (as far as we could see!) however thankfully they did! We sat outside in the sun, the service was very friendly and efficient - all members of staff were helpful and my roast was delicious! The lamb was lovey, the roast potatoes were perfect, there were fun extras like creamed leeks and Yorkshire pudding and overall it was a very pleasant stop-off! My husband had the steak pie and also enjoyed it thoroughly!

Excellent food, a selection of good beers and a relaxed atmosphere. The service was very good, without being intrusive and we never felt that we were on a 'conveyor belt'.

with only 20 hours notice the cote brasserie let us down by moving our booking. with a quick ring round and some favours asked the queen inn was able to seat a party of 10 at very short notice even though they where understaffed ..for this i will forever thank them , the waiter service was fantastic and the food was second to none , all of the staff where very helpful and nothing was to much trouble nothing was rushed and at a leisurely pace the 3 courses and plenty of wine and beer where consumed the rest of my party said what a great time they had ,, well done the queen inn

Good place for lunch.

Parking is difficult as their carpark was full of vans as there was repair work being done. We were warmly welcomed by friendly and efficient staff. A nice menu and a good selection of beers and wines. A very enjoyable meal.

Hit and miss
Jun 2019
This pub is located in a nice part of Winchester and close to walks along the watermeadows. It's great for a drink on a hot day in their pretty garden at the front (the back garden is just grass with lots of picnic tables tightly packed in). Food wise has been a mixed bag. My first visit was for lunch and our meals were lovely homemade dishes. Second visit was for dinner, where the veggie burgers seemed to have changed to frozen ready meal versions and the chips were undercooked in three of our meals. It was also quite a long wait for food to come, that had basically just been heated up on this occasion. Also wouldn't recommend the beer festival, it was a dank tent with some beer barrels. The people serving took little effort to recommend or give any information about the beers they wanted people to buy, overall it wasn't welcoming or pleasant.

I have to say I am very surprised at these comments. Firstly the veggie burgers are made on site, we make them entirely here from scratch and yes we freeze them, so that they stay fresh. Secondly, the garden. As someone that has visited the pub recently you will be aware that there are extensive works being carried out both in our garden and the surrounding area. During the beer festival weekend, that you have mentioned, there was no access to the 'grass' area as a new building was being built. Before the work was started in March this year the garden was mostly grass, but we also had a large decking area, a very large pond and a marquee. Yes I agree picnic benches where in the garden, but not tightly packed, so that people could sit and enjoy the space and food. Thirdly, the beer festival. Yes it is in a tent, several in fact to fit the 40 beers at a time that are on sale. At this years festival, we sold over 100 firkins of real ale, with 3 nights of live music and a beer festival quiz to round things off. This event has been running successfully now for 10 years and growing year on year. I'm sorry you don't feel you didn't receive any advice on the beers, but I can guarantee the staff in the beer tent would have offered you tasters of any of the beers you were interested in. There would have also been tasting programmes all around the pub & festival that weekend, sorry you weren't made aware of these. Please feel free to call me at the pub so we can discuss anything further.

Great lunch

This is a lovely pub and micro brewery just off the beaten track - you can easily walk from the city centre through the meadows by the river Test, it's about a 20 minute stroll. The food was excellent with a varied menu, and by no means expensive. All I all, a real find.

Lovely pub and dog freindly
Jun 2019 • Couples
Stopped on our way to the coast with our dog. Loveley food and freindly staff, would definately use again. Parking could be a bit of an issue when busy, lots of garden works taking place so only parking for 6 cars, although they did give us a permit for the on street parking.
