The Great Hall is easily accessed from the town, and is wonderfully preserved, featuring King Arthur's legendary round table, some impressive gates to commemorate a royal wedding, and a huge statue of Queen Victoria. A tranquil garden at he back is worth a few moments, and the ubiquitous museum shop has all sorts of nick-nacks. There is no coffee shop... More

We visited this as part of the Heritage Open Days and found it fascinating. Free entry but the £3 booklet was well worth it. The juxtaposition of the ancient hall with its history and traditions and the newer contributions such as the marriage gates and Queen's portrait made the hall feel very special.

Impressive ancient great hall with King Arthur's round table on the wall and a peaceful Queen Eleanor garden. Lots of information about the court and parliament here.

Not many people visit this place while in Winchester, just the cathedral, but you should, as its a beautiful place and has the "Knights of the round table" there, plus a large statue of Queen Victoria. There is also a military museum out the back that's run by volunteers and worth a look.

Important historic site that is referenced many times in historic accounts of Winchester (and even in London). Very impressive site - enjoyed reading the descriptions of various displays. Gardens in the back are small but cool and beautiful on a warm day - these are a highlight. Note that there is not much more to this site than the great... More

This is a great place to visit to catch up on some local history and the old history of England. The building is great. You can also have some fun dressing up in historical costumes.
