You'll find a lot of legends in Winchester. Locals will tell you that the place was capital of England for a while, various famous people live and have lived in the city, and to top it off they have King Arthur's round table on display in the Great Hall, along with a few other assorted items. The Great Hall is... More

Such a massive building with so little to see, the King Arthur's table, hanging in one wall and the gates on the other wall, that's it pretty much.

I decided to visit the castle hall from the cathedral. It's quite a walk up a fairly steep hill, lots' of nice shops enroute to break the journey the hall itself is all that's left of Winchester Castle above ground but a visit to the dungeons was interesting and worth a visit. I was a bit disappointed in the herb... More

We found the Great Hall so interesting we visited it twice. The information boards each explained another aspect to the Great Hall from the trials of Walter Raleigh to the gates built to commemorate Charles and Diana's wedding. The 'Round Table' is displayed on the wall, there is also a statue of Queen Victoria a plaque of a Tudor rose... More

This is a free attraction definitely worth a visit. It contains the actual table of the "knights of the round table!" You can donate some money when you leave, £1-2 would be appropriate.

I suggest you read about the Great Hall before visiting - it helps to understand what you are looking at. Beautiful and well-preserved building, with knowledgeable and helpful staff. The little garden at the back is lovely; but needs a little tending. If I were closer, I'd volunteer! Unfortunately our experience of the hall was somewhat marred by the loud... More

It's a free attraction! The great hall is wonderful to walk around. The signs are informative of the relevant history of the area and are interestingly written. I can't think of a single reason why you wouldn't go to the great hall when in Winchester

Protected the history very respectfully in all sense. Castle is a medieval building in Hampshire, England. It was founded in 1067. Only the Great Hall still stands; it houses a museum of the history of Winchester.

The Great Hall was pretty empty and while the structure itself is well preserved and interesting, that was pretty much it. No entrance fee though.
