Worthwhile visit

Just dropped into the Museum at Serles House when passing by. Very relevant as I had a family member in the Hampshire Regiment, serving in WWII. I mentioned this to one of the... read more

The Royal Hampshire Regiment Museum has some excellent artefacts, and is rightly proud of it's history. The museum is worth a visit. There is a lot on display.

My son and I visited in order to track the path of my father in India during WW1 and the fate of my uncle in WW2. I cannot enthuse enough about the standard of the exhibition and the information provided by the secretary Colin Bullied. My son is in a wheel chair and every effort was made to ensure we... More

Just dropped into the Museum at Serles House when passing by. Very relevant as I had a family member in the Hampshire Regiment, serving in WWII. I mentioned this to one of the staff and they kindly looked up the details of recorded action in Italy and then North Africa along with injuries received - which we knew of. We... More

Wifey and I made a day trip to Winchester and visited its many museums. This Military Museum is quite small but packed with war memorabilia which will keep you enthralled for quite a while. Free to enter.

Walked past (and in) by chance, after coming down through the old military barracks and finding an oasis of a garden in front of the building. Fantastic collection of memorabilia and information on the Hampshire Regiment.

Tucked away just off the main road, it truly is a hidden gem of Winchester. A real homage to the fallen regiment and tons of interesting memorabilia to get your teeth stuck into. If your in town and have 30 minutes to kill, then give it a go, we were pleasantly surprised. Entrance is narrow and turning in a wheelchair... More

The museum is in Serles House which has been occupied by various military units since 1781. It feels quite crowded with the exhibits and displays which are spread over the ground floor - this makes it difficult at times to take things in as for example, some exhibits are on top of display cabinets. I suspect there's probably a lot... More

We visited this museum with our historical society and although it is small there is a large amount to see. It covers the wars that the Hampshire Regiments took part in. Displays show uniforms, kit contents, letters, photos, etc. which are quite absorbing. A stroll around the back of the museum shows the former barracks which are now mostly housing... More

Despite being housed in a magnificent Georgian building this is actually quite a small museum occupying only a couple of ground floor rooms. It is fairly modern in layout with big display cases housing medals, guns and various artefacts. All the main campaigns are covered: WW1, India. WW2, Malaya, Northern Ireland, etc. It is free of charge, Very similar to... More

This was a very interesting trip, lots of interactivity for children, mock battles, dressing up, drawing etc.plenty of displayed artefacts, and minuscule models of battles.. Medals, musical instruments and uniforms through the years. There is also a cafe, near the entrance from Romsey Rd, toilet facilities, and access to upper floors by lift. A very interesting few hours were spent... More
