Walked past (and in) by chance, after coming down through the old military barracks and finding an oasis of a garden in front of the building. Fantastic collection of memorabilia and information on the Hampshire Regiment.

Tucked away just off the main road, it truly is a hidden gem of Winchester. A real homage to the fallen regiment and tons of interesting memorabilia to get your teeth stuck into. If your in town and have 30 minutes to kill, then give it a go, we were pleasantly surprised. Entrance is narrow and turning in a wheelchair... More

The museum is in Serles House which has been occupied by various military units since 1781. It feels quite crowded with the exhibits and displays which are spread over the ground floor - this makes it difficult at times to take things in as for example, some exhibits are on top of display cabinets. I suspect there's probably a lot... More

We visited this museum with our historical society and although it is small there is a large amount to see. It covers the wars that the Hampshire Regiments took part in. Displays show uniforms, kit contents, letters, photos, etc. which are quite absorbing. A stroll around the back of the museum shows the former barracks which are now mostly housing... More

Despite being housed in a magnificent Georgian building this is actually quite a small museum occupying only a couple of ground floor rooms. It is fairly modern in layout with big display cases housing medals, guns and various artefacts. All the main campaigns are covered: WW1, India. WW2, Malaya, Northern Ireland, etc. It is free of charge, Very similar to... More

This was a very interesting trip, lots of interactivity for children, mock battles, dressing up, drawing etc.plenty of displayed artefacts, and minuscule models of battles.. Medals, musical instruments and uniforms through the years. There is also a cafe, near the entrance from Romsey Rd, toilet facilities, and access to upper floors by lift. A very interesting few hours were spent... More

This museum is a very interesting little museum that tells the story of The Royal Hampshire Regiment mainly through the 2 world wars. It has some very interesting displays and we spent quite a while looking around. Well worth a visit if you are in Winchester.

This is a lovely regimental museum. The museum does its best to contain the rich history and heritage of the Royal Hampshires, but the space is a bit limited. The staff at this museum are delightful and helpful. I visited at a time when the Great War exhibit was being renovated. I would like to visit again to see what... More

Visited yesterday with Winchester's other military museums. They even kept open for us because we had travelled a fair way. The displays were excellent particularly the striking drums and standards as you walk in. The displays were well thought out and informative. A most interesting mixture and very well lit.The volunteer on duty could not have been more helpful.Keep up the... More
