On 10 November 2024 an excellent, knowledgeable and kind tourist guides conducted us through history and geography of Southampton on ground and under ground. It was the best time spent in a beautiful and historical city that is still blooming through the eyes, minds and hearts of the committed guides. Now the city has one more admirer fellow. Thank you.

Jill met us at the gate in Southampton as was immediately welcoming & friendly, we could tell she clearly loves what she does.
The tour was the OVERGROUND AND UNDERGROUND tour. Towers, walls & vaults and much in between. We thoroughly enjoyed the walk and Jill was extremely knowledgeable.

We took the "In The Footsteps of the Pilgrim Fathers" walking tour, led by Inge. She was outstanding. We learned so much and received accurate information; saw where the Mayflower and its sister ship, Speedwell, docked, and were able to get a great sense of their size; walked where our Pilgrim fathers walked, bought supplies, gathered, etc.; learned about the different groups onboard and why they were traveling to the New World, and what their experience would have been like; and saw a hidden underground vault (initially used by merchants; later used as a World War II bomb shelter). Our private tour even included access (not at the time available to the general public) to some great displays in a medieval-wall room, with information from stone mason Peter. Southampton Tourist Guides Association has our highest recommendation.

i thoroughly enjoyed my 90 minute tour of Southampton with Rob the guide. There is so much history, I enjoyed every minute. Rob was knowledgeable, interesting, helpful and had great stories to tell. The tour was wheelchair accessible. I would highly recommend the tour.

Our truly brilliant tour was taken by Mr Don Robertson. Our group was made up of 3 different nationalities with ages from 7 to 40. Seeing the Vaults was amazing, we had no idea of their structure, intersting feautures and even their beauty! Don gave us a wonderful insight into the history of the Vaults and and even spoke of his own experiences of using them during the 2nd world war! The tour flowed effortlessly from one point of interest to the next. Our international students were easily able to enjoy the tour despite English not
being their first language. The knowledge of
Our Guide was amazing, and the group including the youngsters were gripped at the History and stories surrounding the Vaults. There were plenty of laughs on the way round too, making the tour fun and very
entertaining :) the Va

ults were wonderful to see and we have now been left wanting to know more about the city above them. We look forward to booking part 2 of our 'home town' history lesson with Don. Highly recommending this tour to all, what a wonderful way to spend time!

There is so much hidden history in Southampton, hidden underground in vaults and in buildings. This walking tour was fascinating and we learnt many fascinating facts about the old medieval town. Our guide was very friendly and answered all our questions. I would definitely recommend it to anyone with even a slight interest in history.

It was also great value at only £5.50 per person for 90 minutes.

Today 12 family members who have a connection with the Titanic took a walk with Diana Callaghan. She is very friendly and it was an informative and interesting walk which we all appreciated. Two of us have done other guided tours all of which we would recommend.

Booked a group tour of the 'walls & vaults' for four of us. Andrew our guide, and his lovely assistant Tracey, met us with warm handshakes and smiles at the Bargate. It was my Birthday and they had even got me card- which was a lovely gesture.
It was a fantastic two hours taking in the most interesting section of the city wall and hidden tower/vaults. These guides have keys to ancient towers and pristine 13th century wine vaults, that most people never get to see. Andrew weaved an amazing story covering a thousand years of battles, invasions and intrigues. He encouraged us to comment and question creating a two way dialogue that gave us a chance to really explore some of the historical themes. Our whole party was absorbed from the first minute and the two hours whizzed by. Tips- wear decent gripping shoes. Take a bottle of water/wine.

We went on the first twighlight walk of the year on a Sunday evening. I’ve been living here for about 5 years and really wanted to understand more about Southampton’s long history. We learned so much and Dave was a brilliant guide. Facts, Informative and humour were abundant. A couple of surprises which I won’t mention as I don’t want to spoil the surprise. The walk takes around an hour and half and well worth it. It’s also given me an appreciation of Southampton’s important history.

I wanted to arrange an evening walking tour of Southampton for a number of corporate visitors from across Europe, and came across the Southampton Tourist Guides Association. Andrew offered to do the tour for us, and he was very accommodating in terms of the arrangements. Andrew not only provided lots of interesting Titanic facts, he also pointed out various other landmarks and places of interest along the way (that even us locals knew nothing about!). All members of the group really enjoyed the tour and I would have no hesitation in recommending him to anybody else who is interested in finding out more about the history of the city, whether as a local or a visitor.
