It is really a huge park located in the heart of the city. There are few play areas in the children area which is made of wooden logs and it is really nice.

There are some areas which gives us a feel that we are walking inside woods.

This is a great big open space that is part of the area, a place for exploration and long walks. Too bad the weather was not good on our visit as we could not be outside for long in the cold. Still it was beautiful.

Lovely large common in the heart of the City. Great open spaces to play wide games and have BBQ's in the summer, as well as well built paths ideal for running. Lots of cute ponds with a variety of wildlife.

Only a short walk from the city 10 mins.
The park has improved over the last few years.
Such a nice escape from the city.
Ideal for walks & picnics.
Great in the summer with the lake where young children can feed the ducks.
Worth a visit for an escape with the children when nearby. But don’t go out of your way to visit here as there are much better places if your driving.
It’s quiet in the winter months but can get mental busy when the weather is nice.

Went for a walk & had to contend with dog mess everywhere, used needles & then came across dogging couples! Never again. Nit safe for people or animals.

Dirty, lots of dog litter not picked up. People walking dogs off the lead and not under suitable control. Generally dirty conditions. Skateboarders out of control with no consideration for others.

The common is really beautiful and it is suprising to have such a mass of green land in a big city. Just be careful by yourself, expecially girls, it is not safe to walk down woody paths by yourself, stay in the open and also I would not cross the common at night - even if I were a bloke with a group of friends. It becomes dangerous and people have been attacked.

I caught the bus (number 1 Bluestar) from the city centre to the common and was pleasantly surprised when I got off near the COWSHERD pub. I walked right into the Common and decided to just follow the main pathway as I hadn't been there before. At the start, I was near the children's play area which was quite impressive, lots of mums with children enjoying themselves and a nice enclosed area. There were quite a few people walking dogs, students sitting having lunch, a few cyclist (I do wish they would fit a bell to their bikes!) and generally people walking and chatting. My walk took me past the 'boating' lake, which I have to say had seen better times, it was just a pretty dirty pond really with no boats. However, I continued on my journey and came across another lake which was more a haven for wild life, it was very pretty and seemed clean. Carrying on I passed more dog walkers and pasted the time of day with some. I eventually found myself in a wide open area with a lake on my left (it may have been the other side of the lake I had passed earlier but I wasn't sure) anyway, there was a gated off area with a bench, so I decided to have a seat and overlook the lake. There must have been 100+ pigeons and gulls just sitting there sunning themselves and two beautiful swans, non of which took a blind bit of notice of me. Whilst sitting there, I saw a little movement to my right and turned to see two small wood mice scurrying about looking for food, they were kinda cute with their big eyes but totally harmless. I continued my walk after a little while and ended up at the secret garden by the café, I can't remember the name of the café now so you will have to find it for yourself but it was at the back of the children's play area, not the one in the play area.
I then walked out of the Common, crossed the road and caught the bus back to the City and then another one home to Fareham. What a lovely day. I shall go again but take my wife and little dog Poppy who will, I'm sure enjoy the Common as much as I did.

We wanted to take the kids out and enjoy the last of the good weather. In a good location not far from the city centre and by the main road to the motorway. So after popping into the city and get the children some fresh air we stopped by the Common. The park is really good for kids all the play frames are made from natural resources and sand. There is a park kiosk but is expensive, for a mr silly £2.50. Vast green areas to have picnic and run around and play games with your kids. Ideal for a bike ride or to walk dogs.

A space for children, with a pool at summer time, a good pub, ample paths, plenty of grass, ancient trees, wide fields for playing sports with friends and family, space for barbecues,.... a giant park offering such a varied offer. Great place to visit and enjoy
