Huge green area fitting nicely into central Southampton. Large fields of grass and ponds with cycle and running paths. Dog friendly as well. This makes it a beautiful green city, especially in the summer.

Southampton Common is a very large open area just outside the main City there is a large lake and plenty of wildlife, used by dog walker and many cycles, but don't allow that to stop you visiting its a stunning quiet place after many hours of shopping. The common is very well maintained you can walk for hours if you... More

It's a really nice place to have a walk around, although it isn't the nicest country park that I have ever been too. It's full of wildlife though and it's nice to see some green in the middle of a busy city centre. If your looking for something free to do then it is a good place to come too... More

I have walked around the common at least once a week for 40 years and you never get tired of it. You can visit the Hawthorn centre to learn about the wildlife. There's a children play ground with a paddling pool during the summer. It's very poplar with walkers, runners and cyclists, and dogs.

having lived with the common on my doorstep for over 50 years, I've always loved it. Now visiting with young family you relive your own childhood of the Fair, the different ponds, picking the odd blackberry and just the space and overall enjoyment of it.

Great walks in lovely settings! Also there is a cycle route and a paddling pool for the young kids and play areas! The cowherds Pub is also a good idea for refreshments!

Birding in The Common allowed for a nice stroll. We saw many magpies, pigeons, a hawk but the highlight was coming upon a greeb in the middle of the pond with an egg. The Common was busy with families enjoying the fresh air, bicycling and walking their dogs. Birds were not present in abundance this day but we enjoyed a... More

We went for the first time with our 11 and 9yr olds. They really enjoyed the paddling pool on a really hot day. The play area was ok, but the ice cream man was overpriced.
