Have sailed on her many times, always a fabulous experience. Enthusiastic crew, access to all areas including those parts of a ship that passengers are not normally allowed to visit (bridge and engine room), the unmistakable smell of steam and the best sounding ships whistle ever. Whether you book for a short 2 hour cruise or one of the longer... More

I was lucky to be offered the chance to sample a cruise on this ship. Both my daughter and myself really enjoyed the experience- the only down side was that it was a very cold summer's day. The ship is looked after by volunteers and you get the chance to see both the Bridge and the engine room. There were... More

I took a coach load of Probus members who had no idea what we were going to do until the coach drew up alongside the ship. They were "Gob Smacked" as we say round here and found the next 4 hours absolutely fascinating. You are allowed to go everywhere on the ship which gave you a really thorough understanding of... Sailed today on SS Shieldhall down Southampton Water to the the Solent and back again with a small group of friends. A fantastic experience which allowed everyone a great view of 5 cruise ships as they left Southampton including Britannia. Such an interesting ship with lots to see including the engine room if you want to and staffed by skilled... More

Relaxing whole day cruise on Southampton water with beautiful sunshine to add to the occasion. it was difficult to hear all the commentary from where we were but we could have moved. Snacks, soft drinks and alcohol available at reasonable prices. The smell of bacon cooking seemed to tempt most people to make a purchase. A really relaxing trip and... More

Step back in time abard this wonderful floating museum. Friendly and helpful crew and a ship that has plenty of room on which to explore or just stroll the decks. With excellent catering at reasonable prices, the "SHIELDHALL" is a 'must' for everyone interested in Maritime history. Her amazing steam engines and engine room are available for inspection and there... More

We booked a late afternoon trip on SS Shieldhall and had a truly wonderful cruise up and down Southampton Water. The ship is a wonderful steam driven cargo vessel dating back to 1955 and it is run and maintained by volunteers. We were made to feel most welcome on board and there was lots of space to wander around during... More
