The barley mow was part of our old Portsmouth tour and what a find. Terrific beers, very friendly bar staff and a fantastic enclosed pretty garden. The four of us enjoyed our drinks and enquired about any food. When we asked if we could have some toasted sandwiches, the barman went across the road and bought some bread as he... More

Looking for refreshment in Southsea and found this place hiding down a side street. Friendly with a good selection of ales. Entertainment in the form of the pub cat who insists on running up and down on the keys of the piano

Since moving to Portsmouth in November, I've explored the area and found this is one of the best pubs in Southsea. Excellent staff and locals both friendly and welcoming. Great ales changing every other day, plus a wide selection of other drinks. A garden that I fell in love with, a wood fire in the winter months and a sun... More

This is a great pub. It's relaxed and welcoming and serves a good selection. What makes it special though is the range of events/activities on offer. Live music evenings, meat raffles etc. Real feel that this pub has a strong cohort of 'regulars' as many people seemed to know eachother and there was plenty of friendly banter going on. Makes... This really is everything a traditional English pub should be, unfortunately there aren't many left but this is one that is worth a visit. Friendly relaxed atmosphere and a beautiful garden. Not much food on offer but they do sandwiches and on the day we went in they had a bowl of chilli with crusty bread for just £3.50 and... More

Good ales and decent music in the background. Like a Portsmouth pub of earlier decades with its handy bar billiards table in the corner. No Brickwoods beer in Pompey any more - which is a great improvement. This pub is close to the Hole in the Wall if you are trying a range of pubs.

We decided to do a little saunter around some old haunts, the Barley Mow was one of those. I haven't been there for years and years. It brought back memories and it really hasn't changed. I liked it then and I liked it now, it has a great homely feel.

A wonderful time at the Barley on my birthday. Fantastic food and brilliant beer. Staff friendly, efficient and helpful. The public bar is highly recommended for any private function. Could not have been any better!
