We have visited ancient churches and cathedrals all over Europe, but this unassuming, simple little church is one of our favorite treasures ever! It sits very close to the much more famous Hailes Abbey ruins. It is still a working church so plan your visit around their regular services. You will be treated to some of the most unique medieval wall art anywhere. These wall paintings are incredibly old, and were covered up to protect the church from the razing of churches done during Henry VIII's reign. Later, they were exposed and exist today in their original condition. Take the time to visit here and you will leave with a smile.

Church isnt big but is a little gem of a find. The Medieval wall paintings are well worth seeing, the church is peaceful has an interesting history. Combined with a visit to the Abbey up the road, there is a lot to see in a peaceful setting.

I have visited this church several times because it is one of my favorite places to visit. This church dates to the 11th or 12th century (I forgot exactly when it was built). It is a small church with a small churchyard. The paintings in the area near the alter are exquisite. The entire site is extremely peaceful. It is a true gem.

Small ancient church with amazing murals (considering the age and content). Make sure you go in good daylight as no electric.

It would be easy to go to the Abbey and not bother with a country church, but you would miss an important reminder of what churches were like pre-Cromwell. The walls have restored Mediaeval paintings, not all sacred. There is a scene of a huntsman with dogs; on the wall opposite is a giant who turns out to be St Christopher. And there are even more paintings in the Chancel, some of which are really clear. I liked the fanciful beasts best.
Spend some quiet time here. One Wednesday a month prayers are said for those who leave requests pinned to the wooden cross. Very much a sacred place still.

Stopped here on our Cotswolds way walk. The church has some great old paintings on the way from the 12th or 13th century. A neat space to visit to get a real feel for the age of the area.

It has stained glass and tiles from the abbey. There is also some wonderful wall paintings remaining from 1216 and box pews from 1604. The church was used for the travelers and pilgrims to the abbey, and is actually older then the abbey. It appears much larger on the inside then what it appears on the outside. Well worth taking a look. Wonderful walled graveyard as well.

This sweet little church features Mediaeval wall-painting and tiles. It’s very unspoiled, we’ll worth a visit.

Felt relatively untouched by time. A simple little church also many tiles salvaged from the abbey destroyed on Henry VIII's orders.
