We came here cos we have a Scarborough beach in Yorkshire. That beach is very good but this is excellent. Wonderful white sands and a gorgeous sea colour. The only thing lacking on this beach is toilet facilities. Maybe that explains why unlike other beaches in the area that were packed at New Year, this beach was surprisingly quiet

Ideal for relaxing on the beach. Close to town but relatively uncrowded. Ideal for collecting mussels, good surfing spots but water can be very cold. Can be windy in summer too

In my view this is a must place/beach to come to if you are in Cape Town. It is a bit of a drive from Cape Town - about an hour or 40kms but a convenient time to visit would be after going to Cape Point.

It has a rugged and unspoiled beauty to it and can be windy but what great waves you get if it is - crashing on to the beach - probably the most southerly beach before you get into the Cape National Park. There is plenty of parking, some basic toilets and no immediate eateries /cafes. A nice long beach runs to the left and to the right are some lovely rocky areas with fantastic and unforgettable views towards the wonderful Misty Cliffs - I could spend all afternoon here.

It is popular with the locals, human and canine with the latter not always accompanied but they are enjoying themselves. This is a great place to relax and reflect and enjoy the magnificent vista. Camps Bay it is not - absolutely no beach vendors and sun loungers and that is a real positive.

This is my favourite Cape Town area beach along with Dias beach at Cape Point. Take your camera and do the drive to Misty Cliffs - some wonderful views but it is much better in the Scarborough to Misty Cliffs direction.

Do try and visit and I doubt if you will be disappointed.

This is well worth a drive from Cape Town. Absolutely stunning, unspoilt natural scenery, and a great restaurant for lunch

We came across this little beach looking for a tea stop. The sand is white and soft. The sea a beautiful blue. Popular with surfers as the waves were quite choppy. Plenty of parking but nothing much else

We visited Scarborough for the day, after passing it a few days before and thinking “we should come back”.

We are so glad we did! It is 45-60 mins from Cape Town central and an easy drive. Our kids played happily for hours in the rock pools and sand. It is a magical location and worth spending the day if the weather is good (and you need down-time from sight-seeing).

There are no showers or change facilities that we could see, but a towel and some water will suffice to get the sand off (take extra water!).

We drove down to Scarborough, parked up and walked down to the beach.
The beach was clean and tidy. There was barely anyone else on the beach whilst we were there. It was so lovely to have a walk around and have some peace.

Scarborough beach stretches out into the distance like a horseshoe bending around the coastline, sometimes dotted with families enjoying the rare gift of warmth, sometimes solitude is found here.

The beach is my go-to place. Some folks like their fancy coffees but give me the pebbles that move under foot with their loud crunch- louder than fall leaves and present all year. I breath in the salty air like it’s an elixir, to me I think it is. Above all it is the fantastic colouring of this beach that as the tide-line the grey rocks are splashed gorse-yellow with close-growing lichen, and with others of blue-green and salmon pink. Beneath them are the vivid orange-browns and siennas of wrack-weeds, the violet of mussel-beds, dead-white sand, and water through which one sees down to the bottom, as though pale blue green bottle-glass, to where starfish and big spiny urchins of pink and purple rest upon the broad leaves of the sea-tangle. I drink in the sound of the gulls, crying for their lunch and watch the sun up high in the sky, as it warms the sand - I take another look at the beach and commit it to memory. I don't just want the photographs I want to bottle the scent and have seashells to touch. I want to recall the feel of the sand between my toes and the clarity of the ocean.

Roushanna at Veld & Sea have some folk foraging on the rocks at low tide…. another lesson learnt, another few to enjoy the spoils of nature – a blessing to be enjoyed in the great outdoors which is ours at Scarborough Beach -

This is probably my favourite beach in the Cape Town environs albeit that it is a bit of a trip to get there from the city centre and is the last resort before you are in the Cape of Good Hope National Park, on the Atlantic ocean side.

The views on the beach looking towards Misty Cliffs (i.e on the beach and looking to the right) are simply mesmerising and stunning - breathtaking, particularly when the sun is out. It is probably an easierwalk to the left where the main beach is and this borders the Cape of Good Hope National Park which is not accessible from here.

There is a decent sized car park so you should never fail to get a space - some rather basic toilets and no refreshment outlet. The beach is generally not busy but being by myself I didn't have any safety issues and in my opinion, the beach views towards Misty Cliffs are some of the loveliest you will encounter anywhere in the world.

Do try and visit and I would be very surprised if you are disappointed.
