Along the South Coast there are many new and striking art galleries from the Turner in Margate to the Jerwood in Hastings. Sometimes they struggle to match content with the impressive buildings housing them. The Rye Art Gallery is different. It has a modern and spacious feel but was formed from the separate homes of two artists that were joined... More

Dear William Many thanks for your very kind review. Over the years we have worked hard to establish this Gallery as the home of high quality contemporary art which is also affordable. In the 50 years since we opened we have shown works for sale by many up and coming artists who have gone on to be RAs or to... More

Something for everyone in this gallery - paintings, sculptures, jewellery, textiles, ceramics etc. On the whole the quality of work is very high and originality shines forth. Good to see local artists represented. Well worth a visit to admire or purchase the work on offer.

Rye Art Gallery is an interesting find which at first site looks like another shop on the High Street. Inside it is arranged into two parts – the ground level is a commercial gallery holding temporary exhibitions with works for sale and selling prints, glass ware, ceramics and jewellery. There is also a good selection of cards. The upper levels... More

This is the most substantial art gallery in Rye. Spread over three floors it functions as a selling gallery for local artists as well as a museum exhibition space. It's an architectural hotch-pitch. Downstairs it's all ultra-modern made of concrete and glass; upstairs rooms feel much more formal, Victorian and rickety. The first room downstairs is very much a shop,... More

We passed there and decidedly to stop. Theplace is surprisingly big and bright. The range of art is wide but not our tastes (the mice portrait did block me)

Beautiful collection of art on display and for sale. Three floors full of paintings, sculptures and craftwork in a bright building. The patio planted with lavender and roses at the rear side is also worth a glance. I am very glad that I actually received a bracelet as a birthday present as a reminder of this marvellous gallery.

The Rye Gallery is located in the heart of Rye. Full of character it has been beautifully extended and full of interesting paintings, ceramics, sculpture. I found artists I had never heard of before and many of them live or lived on the Marsh or in Rye. The staff were very friendly, informative about the artists, and helpful. I would... More

Full of contemporary art from a wide range of genres, this art gallery is a real gem within the beautiful town of Rye. Situated on the main street this is somewhere all should visit, celebrating and showcasing artist talent from around the country, including on my visit an exhibition of GCSE work by local children. As well as the contemporary... More

Have walked past here several times, mistakenly thinking it was some sort of avant garde upmarket private gallery. Don't make the same mistake as me! It is a wonderful old building tastefully converted with amazing light inside. As well as local professional artists the GCSE work from a local school was on display. Good stuff. Worth a trip inside every... More
