- The Codnor TravellerCodnor, United Kingdom213 contributionsSmart pierWe didn't get a chance to see all of this smart looking pier due to their being some music festival or another taking place at the end of it. The part I did see was smart and well maintained. There was a large restaurant complex (Casa de Pier) at the end I could access, as well as various food and drinks stalls/vans dotted further up. The views of the town (and sea, obviously) from the pier were very nice and I can imagine it is a lovely place on a quiet, out of season warm day to sit and relax and let the world roll slowly past. Not much chance of that for me however, as I was treated to the distant repetition of "90's House music." I was informed by an event steward that the next evening there was a "reggae night" and so naturally I tore up any plans to return. I would like to return one day though. Its a smart pier.Visited May 2024Traveled with familyWritten May 27, 2024
- KAW687London, United Kingdom2,589 contributionsPleasant walkIt's good to see the pier rebuilt. It's free to enter. I liked the little sea sculptures around the end. Makes a nice place to wander and you can get a good cup of tea in the White Rock Theatre cafe opposite.Visited March 2024Traveled as a coupleWritten September 12, 2024
- sheepygold5,527 contributionsPleasant views along the coastWe like to walk up to the pier for a look but to be honest there isn't much to see on the pier itself other than some nice views along the coast. There are a couple of places to get food and drink. We came during the week and the small stalls were closed.Visited October 2024Traveled with friendsWritten October 24, 2024

It's been a breath of fresh air with new music and beir garden on the Pier. Prices for drinks are a little steep but not too bad. Cider more reasonable that spirits £7 for a double!!
However, even turning up at 9pm they won't allow anyone on despite people leaving 🤷♂️. Doesn't make sense when open till late.
I don't feel like they check any IDs a lot of very young teenagers on there.
Need smoking bins on the front gates for all the punters that go off to smoke and leave butts on the floor.
Great addition however and hope the new way is kept for next year.

Hastings pier is a wonderful place to feel the breeze and the sunshine on your face and to experience the views of a traditional coastal resort. It has a lot to offer but do avoid the restaurant areas which are overpriced - shockingly so - and of mediocre quality. The bill of fare was not clearly displayed and we were horrified to find how much burgers and chips and a couple of drinks cost. Had we gone to any of the excellent local fish and chip shops we would have been far happier and will do so in future.

We has a nice walk along Hastings pier and it was good to see it slowly coming back to life. During the summer there was some fantastic free open-air concerts and the tribute Friday concerts are just £5 entry (we did not attend, but wish we had done as music we could hear from the beach was excellent and there seemed to be great party going on in the beer garden). The concerts are held by the huge open air beer garden at the end of the pier.
The pier was built in 1872 and in its heyday hosted acts such as The Rolling Stones, The Who, Jimi Hendrix, Genesis, Tom Jones and Pink Floyd. Following major storm damage in 1990 the pier was forced to close in 2008 (despite various efforts to keep it going). Most of the pier was then destroyed in an arson attack in 2010. Following local fund raising effort the pier re-opened in 2016 and went on to win the 2017 Stirling Prize for architecture; unfortunately the charity running the pier when bust in 2017. The pier was sold in 2018 and re-opened in 2019 – it has then slowly gone from strength to strength.

I ordered Whiting and Chips with Fish Nuggets and got charged £18.00 and a wait of almost 40 minutes, but when I got home, the Nuggets weren't in the bag, so I ate what I had, I went back to the Pier to tell them. The female Manager came along and told me I was shouting, I told them I wear a hearing aid that's why I was loud, but she obviously didnt understand what I was saying. She insisted the nuggets were in the bag, but they weren't then she said if I spoke nice to her she might be more amenable so I smiled at her and asked her for my money back....please, for the missing nuggets. She stormed off, got the money and slammed it on the counter and stomped off like an Oompha Loompha again. I said "why did she do that?". The staff ignored me. I thought it was rude and totally unprofessional for a fish and chip shop Manager that shares premises with the wonderful BBQ Project, to act in this manner against a disabled person.
I wont bother going in the Fish & Chip Shop on the Pier again. They aren't worth it and it's pretty obvious they have no time for disabled people especially if they are deaf and have loud voices. AVOID LIKE THE PLAGUE!!!!!

Disappointed by the pier today. They have barriers for the bottom end of the pier and were charging £4 per person (including babies as they said they charge for our under 2 year old 😱) to walk on the lower end. There’s also no social distancing rules in place in general on the pier, only the food stalls had this.

Every since this was purchased by a private buyer the opening times for the pier have been random, so you can never really be sure of getting onto the pier. Food is abysmal and I hear the new table seating has incredibly slow drinks service, but am glad to hear they are under new management who can finally make good use of this local resource. Hope they can get it together to make it a place for the community to enjoy again.

Went to the pre pirate day event, between us we paid over £100 for a table to have it over taken by "crew" wearing yellow wrist bands. Security wouldn't do anything and the crew told us they could sit on our table we booked and paid over £100 for they didn't have to move. Absolutely appalling. Pay for a table and have to move because your crew decide they want to sit on our table. Awful.

I’ve been to the pier when I’ve had the bands on like madness amongst others , But my recent Experience of the pier Was more disappointing ...I was visiting with three friends we set ourselves at one of the many benches on quite an empty day and we sit and we sit no one comes to us! One of our party asked to go in and speak to someone And finally they come out! The selection of beers is terrible they come back out and tell us they haven’t got what we want we 3 times on most of our orders . If they spent less time taking pictures of their beer and putting it on social media and actually serving the customers sitting there maybe it could redeem itself and perhaps some staff with personality who actually gave a dam about who is sitting out front , Not just sitting inside and chatting to their mates all on their phones. Oh yes and three beers and 3 shots £23

The last time that I visited Hastings Pier it was a vibrant place, with lots to see and do - including a wonderful display on the history of the pier - with public toilets (not requiring you to be a customer).
My visit today was such a disappointment by contrast. There was a collection of 'cabins' on either side but most were not open. I have no idea what they sold or provided. The iconic central building was completely devoid of activity and shut to the public and the far end of the pier (about a third of its length) was also not open for the public. This was a Saturday morning on a beautiful autumn day, so is the pier already running down for the winter season?
Interestingly, when we called in for a coffee at what is, I assume, the main catering outlet, there was a photograph of the pier in its heyday, filled with lovely buildings and, therefore lots to do and a significant attraction.
Let's hope that Hastings Pier can very soon return to something approaching the venue it was.

Hastings Pier has adapted very well to the covid situation with a carefully prepared walk, hand sanitizers and social distancing. There was enough space to enjoy the amazing views of the town, the old pier and the surrounding sea with display panels. Service could have been improved in the shop but this didn't spoil today's visit.

Can you still purchase plaques to put on the pier ?
Written October 20, 2019
Last comment on plaques I can see was 11 months ago to say they were looking for a new plaque provider so I would try and make contact with them through their Facebook page.

Why has the pier’s FB page blocked me from commenting? I want to ask them a question!

Why is the pier closed?
Written January 26, 2019
I read that Hastings Pier is closed for three months for maintenance works. Sadly, the usual staff are now out of work for the duration. Doesn't seem very fair!

Hi, there is parking near the White Rock Theatre and in St Margaret's road (take turn in at White Rock Theatre and turn left at junction), some is free and some is parking on a meter machine at reasonable prices and just a short walk from the pier.

Yes! Well-behaved dogs on leads with responsible owners are welcome to promenade the Pier decking.
However, dogs are not permitted at events, in buildings, food areas or on the Upper Deck (with the exception of assistance dogs).
