This park is such an amazing space for the community. It's so nice having such a big bit of green in the middle of the city, the skate park is great for people of all ages to practice what they love, the fountains and park on the opposite side are so so good (especially in the summer when its hot-lots of little children and families using the space, good vibes)... There are two good cafes, one being the Loving Hut which does amazing vegan food.
Unfortunately there is a year-round gathering of right dodgy folk that hang out on the green side who don't really pay attention to what their dogs are doing. They just let them run free when they are obviously quite prone to attacking other peoples dogs. There are two in particular that have tried to attack our little dog, who attacked another dog down there today who you could hear yelping from the other side of the park- horrible to see and hear!
Not to mention one afternoon when I had to physically peel one womans claws out of some poor old ladys hair- I don't know what had gone on but the violent woman came storming across the park shouting and cussing and just attacked this poor woman walking her dogs. Really horrible stuff that took me and another stranger to break up!
Another incident where some dodgy folk came and stole a bag from some friends of mine and then launched a full on racial attack against one of the poor girls, throwing cans and stuff at her, shouting abuse and drove her out of the park just because they had been caught on the pinch.
These are just a couple of examples of the sort of incidents that happen all too often down there. It's mainly the dogs that worry me- its the closest place to walk our little one so end up having to cut it short most times as have to take a wide birth of the two light-tan coloured dogs that are always loose down there.
The Level is a great place to go and hang out- just be careful who you're hanging out near!

firstly, this is a beautiful place, now that it has been redone, yet there are quite a few drunk and homeless people who live/hang out on the field by the skate park, they have not caused any trouble for me but i keep my kids inside the park, the water jets are really great for kids to play in and there is a wide range of really nice play equipment, nice for a picnic, watch out for the seagulls though!!!

Good green space but look a little closer and theres literally nowhere to sit that isnt littered with fag butts. Regular groups of drunks hanging out there all day, sometimes with unruly dogs (our dog was attacked by a pair who were there often once). I once had to claw a violent woman off another woman who was just resting at the edge of the park with her dogs which is charming. Luckily no kids around at the time.
That being said the sakte park is perfect and a really good facility, plus on a nice sunny day there is a good energy with the green space filled with lots of different kinds of people, people doing circus stuff and frisbee etc..... just marred by the odd wrong'un. The fountain area is great for little ones in the summer and the no dogs policy on that side is good for that. The play park is also brilliant, although its hard to trust the cleanliness of the sandpits...we've found empty baggies, fag butts etc all in that area (gross) and im sure homeless must use the tunnels and frames to sleep because its pretty perfect for that. Public toilets arent the worst but arent the worst, but once I did see them taking a dead body out of one (drug related) so theres that.
So....its a mixed bag. As long as you go on hte right day at the right time to the right spot you're golden.

This review is purely for the on site cafe, ordered 2 coffees and 2 warmed pastries. food came out to us within 6 minutes, fine, coffees arrived after 25 minutes, food all consumed, crazy time, staff not aware who was waiting for what or for how long, a simple solution would to be to issue each customer with a number on a stick to assist waiting staff. The delay is very poor and we checked, our drinks were not given elsewhere in error

Not a nice or safe part of town. You can see the council is trying to change it but it’s not worked. Brighton as a whole is safe but this area is pretty bad.

Not a park you’d want to stop in. Preston park is a much better option.

Unfortunately the area has gone downhill rapidly, very undesirable people often having run ins with the police are scattered around the vicinity. Stay away until the council sort out this mess of what was once a lovely family place.

My wife and I took our boys here and they throughly enjoyed it,especially playing in the water.
I rated it poor as I was discussed to find a needles sharp box in the public toilets,I spoke to a council worker in the area and he said that its been out there by the council so the "junkies" can inject in there.
I was mortified as a young child could easily pull the box down and get pricked by the used needles. My advice, use the park with caution as there is clearly users near by.

What could be a more vibrant space. Used to be the cricket field in Georgian times. I have the original print! Sometimes there is a fun fair about 3 times a year on Bank holiday. Should be craft and music festivals in the summer but no. One pizza place cum cafe. Child friendly. Skate boarding. Sometimes the odd rather miserable fair in good weather badly advertised so even locals don’t know. Sunday market along the north side of the level summer months only not well advertised. Good place to jog, run and walk the dog. Some festivals. Public toilets next to the cafe.

A truly lovely park to have a walk in nice weather if you wish to stretch your legs or take your children

If it's just a nifty bag of greenery you're looking for or if you're a dissilusioned outcasted lonely mid 30's male looking to hurl abuse at schoolkids, this place really has it all! They do often try to sell you oregano, but just remind them that you know their parents and where they sleep at night and they'll sort you out proper. wicked for a quick scrumpy on the park too.
