The museum fancies itself a bit at £12 for exhibition entry (David Bowie) but, in the same breath asks you to wait an hour* for entry due, they say, to 'Covid regulations'.

Their interpretation of Covid regulations - which has already closed two permanent galleries but not, as far as I know, lead to a lowering of admission prices. Vote with your feet. I left, £24 better off.

*It's not necessarily an hour on all occasions but depends on the number of pre-booked guests they've let in.

It's not huge but there's some interesting exhibits and plenty beyond "stuff in cases". I enjoyed the new (to me) local gallery on the ground floor which told the story of various prehistoric locals, using knowledge from DNA and medicine to do so. The temporary exhibition on women's football was also worth a look - and I am neither a woman nor a football fan! The shop is worth a browse. It costs to get in - if you have an Art Fund card, or are a local resident, it's free.

I enjoyed a lot my visit to the Brighton Museum and Art Gallery. I liked the variety of the exhibits. From design objects, to Egyptian heritage, to paintings, a room with prehistoric life and Brighton memories. All nicely presented, with interesting, stimulating and engaging interpretive descriptions. Clearly there is a lot of educational activities taking place in the Museum and this gave it an overall fresh and vibrant atmosphere. Definitely recommended.

When we were arrived, I was greeted by a misogynist man at the front desk who refused to even speak to me and then was all “yes Sir, no Sir” to the customer behind me. Quite frankly we struggled to understand what a lot of the exhibits had to do with Brighton at all. There wasn’t much we found interesting and we were in and out within the hour. We seem to be learning that if you have to pay for a city museum, it’s not worth bothering with. I would have liked some interactive features. Gift shop wasn’t even worth taking note of.

Visited with my daughter the day after we had watched England win their quarter final in the Women’s Euros. We are big football fans irrespective of gender but with 2 daughters playing the beautiful game, we are especially supportive of the woman’s game, so keen to see the exhibit at the museum. We did look at the rest of the museum and art gallery, but the football exhibit was our main focus. We were hoping to see something of the first official England woman’s team in 1972, but only because my daughter plays with one of their granddaughters. On reflection I expect once the ban was lifted and the team given the FA thumbs up in theory their adversity was lessoned. Anyway still worth the visit. Some heartwarming and heartbreaking stories retold and the opportunity to play a game of Subbuteo was not missed at the end.

I enjoyed my visit to this museum. Although small compared to many other museums, I found it far larger than I had expected after seeing previous reviews. The upper floor includes an art gallery with, to be honest, some rather underwhelming paintings, and special exhibition areas. At the time of my visit there was an exhibition of Roger Bamber photographs, mostly black and white, which were fascinating. The area was well laid out and there was background information given with each photograph. The only issue I had here was that the lighting was sometimes too harsh and badly angled towards the photos making it difficult to see the works properly. The museum areas are divided into different areas with a broad range of collections on display so there is something here for all interests.

Nothing short of excellent. There are some real gems here. Super exhibitions, objects, displays and great interactive features our children loved. The first floor picture gallery is also full of some quality works. Really not to be missed.

A decent visit overall- some of the exhibits were better than others. I think the rooms on Brighton history and Ancient Egypt could do with a bit of updating but the fashion and LGBT exhibits were much better. We did not go into the Bowie exhibition.

We went to the museum to see the Goal power exhibition which was a tribute to women's football. It was okay, lots of historical information and jerseys but we couldn't help feeling that the copa clubhouse was at the wwc in France was better. We like anything women's football to be honest.

What a brilliant museum and art gallery. It captured the spirit and history of Brighton with its exhibits whilst drawing upon wider creative elements such as Picasso, Faberge, Charles Rennie Mackintosh. Set out in discreet sections that all dovetail together well. Well worth a visit. Really enjoyed the experience
