    Two hours well spent
Visited for the first time in 50 years. Great atmosphere, loads to see and do. Easy access to the tanks, including an underwater tunnel. Liked the jellyfish and the turtles, but there is so much more to it. Enjoyed this a lot
Ahoy MCXV, Tanks for swimming by to share that you had a turtle-y FIN-tastic visit after 50 years! We do strive to make the attraction as exciting as possible and value for money by having a variety of amazing displays, from trekking through our Rainforest Adventure to exploring what the Ocean has to offer in our Day and Night attraction! Oldest Aquarium in UK
A lot smaller than I thought it would be. Nothing particularly unique about the site other than it being the oldest aquarium in the UK. Loved seeing the giant tortoise but wouldn’t pay the extra money for the ‘boat’. Food area small and limited, darkly lit.
Hello emilyjeanx, Thank you for taking the time to leave a review on your recent visit to SEA LIFE Brighton. We're sorry to hear that you felt this way with regards to your recent experience. We are the oldest aquarium in the world! Though we are a smaller attraction and try to make the displays as interesting and interactive as possible from trekking through our Rainforest Adventure to exploring what the Ocean has to offer in our Day and Night display in the auditorium. We offer the Glass Bottom Boat experience so guests can have a personalized experience with the host to learn about the turtles, sharks, and fish that live in the Ocean Tank. This was created to be more of an educational experience instead of just SEA-ing the sea creatures and is very popular with our guests. We also do feel that in comparison to other Brighton attractions that we're competitively priced. Don’t forget, you can make savings when purchasing in advance via our website. Great way to spend a couple of hours
Lovely aquarium. Beautiful vaulted ceilings in the old part, which lets you to feel a connection with the history of the place. Plenty of fascinating exhibits, with loads of fun activities for the little ones. A bit pricey for day tickets, but no more so than others in the UK. If we lived nearby the annual passes would be excellent value.
Ahoy pragmatopian, Thanks for swimming by to leave us a 4* review! It is FIN-tastic to hear that you enjoyed your visit, our exhibits and the activities for our little guests! We hope to SEA you again soon! Best fishes! Stephanie Guest Experience Team

Nice aquarium with some unique species. Quite small but architecturally very impressive and the world’s oldest aquarium!
We had a good visit to the aquarium and saw some unique inhabitants (including a giant turtle and upside down jellyfish). The building is architecturally very impressive but the attraction is quite small. For the price, it felt a bit expensive for what was there. That said, this is still a good attraction to visit in Brighton and a great way to escape the rain (and see the world’s oldest aquarium!!).
Ahoy benrW6525DQ, Thank you for leaving a 4* review and sharing that you enjoyed your visit along with the sea creatures! Good but is it value for money?
Really love the experience and it’s based in such a beautiful building. Plenty of things to see and do. I believe it’s about a 2hr experience. The only negative is the price. I think personally the difference between adult and child is too small and I think a discounted family ticket would improve the affordability for family’s. With the basic 2 adult and 2 child costing £87 at this moment in time without any extras or lunch. Is this two hour experience worth £87? That is a question! I don’t think it is….
Hello Jonathan M, Thanks for taking the time to leave your feedback. We do strive to make the attraction as EEL-ly exciting as possible and value for money by having a variety of amazing displays, from trekking through our Rainforest Adventure to exploring what the Ocean has to offer in our Day and Night attraction. We also do feel that in comparison to other Brighton attractions that we're competitively priced. Don’t forget, you can make savings when purchasing in advance via our website. Skip the crowds, visit in the winter
The aquarium itself is beautiful, with stunning architecture and well-maintained tanks. Being that we visited in the winter (and during the renovations), the aquarium was practically empty, giving us plenty of time to enjoy the exhibits. Many of the animals at the aquarium are rescues, including the three sea turtles.
Ahoy xlyssa, It's CRAB-tastic to SEA you enjoyed your recent visit to SEA LIFE Brighton and that you enjoyed visiting with our rescued sea life. We shore hope to welcome you again soon! Best fishes, Stephanie Guest Experience Team

    Under the sea...
We returned to Brighton's Sealife Centre having visited a year prior. The intercom announced somebody's birthday, which sent the giant sea turtles into a sudden mating frenzy. This never happens when someone's birthday is announced at my workplace. We went on the glass bottomed boat this time and watched the graceful creatures swim beneath. It was quite serene. I had been promising the rest of my group the sighting of a massive miserable grouper, who had been there last year. Sadly, he was not visible. So he was either hiding or has died. Despite his absence, we had a whale of a time. Pun intended.
Ahoy Monsieurslinky, Thanks for swimming by to leave us a 5* review and that the sea creatures on the boat helped you have a WHALE of a time! Our grouper is nocturnal and sometimes sleeps in corners, but rest assured he is doing well and looks forward to SEA-ing you during your next visit! Best fishes!

The Out Of Hours Tour Is A Must!
The out of hours tour was AMAZING!!!! I did this as a surprise for my friends as they had come to Brighton for my birthday weekend and I wanted to give them a big thank you. We had a lovely tour guide who knew everything about every sea creature in the centre. We were the only ones there so it was quiet and no queues anywhere. We could take our time seeing everything and we got to do the glass bottom boat ride where we got to feed the fish in the big tank. Our tour was for about an hour and we loved every minute of it.
Wowza thanks for swimming by to leave a 5* review Suzytheexplorer about your private VIP 'Sharks After Dark' Tour! We are so glad to SEA you had a turtle-y amazing time with the Guest Experience Host learning about our creatures and the fishy-fun facts too! We look forward to welcoming you back again soon!

I visited with my grown up daughter. The place was busy as it was half term, but there was plenty of space to walk around and look at everything.

There were some unusual and interesting exhibits. We particularly liked the sea horses, and the large turtles which were in the large auditorium area with the sharks.

We saw a couple of the feeding times and the staff seemed well informed, although we couldn't always hear what they were saying.

We decided not to pay the extra £4.50 per person for the glass bottom boat and were glad we did. We could see it while we were sitting in the auditorium waiting for the shark feeding. It only travelled a very short distance across the large tank in which the sharks and turtles were swimming. Most of the children on board seemed to be looking overboard rather than into the bottom of the boat and probably could see no more that we could or than could be seen from the viewing tunnel underneath.

We booked online, with timed entry during Covid and assumed numbers would be limited in such an enclosed space. However it was very crowded and hot. The signage was poor and there were no staff directing people so it just felt chaotic. The lighting is also very poor.
I visited a few years ago and was impressed by the Victorian grandeur but this visit was very disappointing.
Our visit only tool 30 minutes and cost £43 so very poor value.

Hi Helen H! We're sorry to hear you didn't have as good a day out as you wished for. We have significantly reduced our capacity to allow for social distancing throughout the attraction and encourage this through various pieces of signage and our new one way flow. As a result of this, our average dwell time is around 60-90 minutes, with guests being allowed to stay for much longer if they like, so we are sorry if you felt let down by this. With regards to the lighting, we have to have it set in certain ways for our creatures welfare which is why we have what may appear as a darker ambience. We can however light up certain elements which don't affect our animals, including our JAWsome Victorian Arcade as mentioned, allowing explorers to see the beautiful, original architecture. Thanks again for taking the time to leave a review. Best fishes, Helen Guest Experience Manager SEA LIFE Brighton

Two adults visiting with a two year old. One of the adults got in free with an offer from a cereal packet, and the two year old was free.

Objected to the obligatory photo on entrance (which held the queue up on a fairly busy Saturday morning) but after that, we had a pleasant few hours wandering around.

We have visited before although some time ago, and really like the dark atmosphere down in the old Victorian structure. The tanks and displays are well maintained although some other areas look a little tired.

There’s a really nice variety of creatures to look at. We didn’t get a chance to read much but found some background information was lacking in various locations.

The staff were very friendly and helpful and the cafe inside wasn’t too badly priced. We managed to last a few hours before our toddler got irritable and for the discounted entry price, we enjoyed it.

Had we paid full price I think it would be a bit disappointing.

Went in August 1:40pm ticket. We thought half the sealife must’ve been shut off as there was so little we were in and out within 30mins (2adults 3children aged 13/10/1). The building and displays are pretty but way overpriced and then on top of entry fee they have simulators priced inside for £10 for two ppl or £6 for one, glass bottom boat £30 for 10mins for two both and the cafe is literally plonked in the middle of the floor with ppl viewing attractions each side this causes congestion. We drove almost 2hrs for a day here it’s not just the sealife the town itself and beachfront is not nice! Every toilet in the nearby Burger King you cannot use unless u you ask staff for the codes as each loo has a pin coded lock on and we soon realised why with random ‘odd looking’ men coming in and harassing customers for money and trying to gain access to the loo. We recently went to Weymouth sealife and that had a lovely splash park, childs big outdoor park with sandpit, penguins, seals, waffle bar, just to name a few of the extras and that one was well worth the entry!!

Hi jadeprior88, Thanks for taking the time to swim by and leave a review. We're sorry to hear you didn't enjoy your visit to SEA LIFE Brighton or Brighton itself. We are home to over 5,000 creatures and encourage explorers to take their time around the attraction, learning lots of information about our animals and admiring them at home in the world's oldest aquarium! Furthermore, we have our eel-y cool quiz trails to do when visiting as well. We like to offer our explorers the opportunity to immerse themselves even deeper in to the underwater world by experiencing our Glass Bottom Boat or Virtual Reality add-ons, we're sorry to hear you were disappointed there was an additional cost on top of entry for these experiences but they are limited! We welcome your feedback and should there be anything else you wish to discuss, please get in touch via our official Facebook page. Best fishes, Helen SEA LIFE Brighton

We took a short break in Feb half term with our 2 boys 4&8 and decided to come here. We’d been to both London and Gt Yarmouth Sea Life’s centres previously so had a rough idea what to expect. We also used our Clubcard vouchers to get large discounts off the ticket price.
We really liked it here! We found the building added to the charm and feel. It was very different to the others we had been to. There was lots to see and we found it clean and not too crowded but appreciate we didn’t go in peak season.
The VR experience was something a bit different and whilst it cost an additional £5 each, my boys loved it! We didn’t need to book this in advance, we just queued for 10mins and paid whilst in the queue.
The cafe is smaller compared to Gt Yarmouth but offers light snacks.
There was a good kids map/trail which required them to hunt for clues and then scratch off answers from their leaflet (just like a lotto scratch card), plus they got a badge at the end for completing.
We found this a very enjoyable visit for a few hrs out of the wind and rain. Although appreciate that without the discount, I think it’s a little overpriced.

Visited with my wife, son and 3 grandchildren (15, 12 and 10). The exhibits kept us all intrigued for a good couple of hours.
Lots of families with young children there also and windows in sides of tanks and viewing tunnels catered for them.
Toilets were very clean
Prior to visiting we checked the website but it had no information about the cafe. We didn’t know whether we had to plan to eat lunch there or elsewhere. Turned out it had basic prepackaged sandwiches only.
Adjacent Harvester and Harry Ramsden had one hour wait for tables. Ended up walking 10 minutes to find a pub meal at King and Queen
Sea Life is a Merlin entertainment property so it’s expensive. We were unsure of arrival times (driving via Dartford river crossing) so had to pay extra for anytime admission tickets. Website and Reception try to upsell a ride on glass bottom boat. But when we saw the short distance the boat traveled I was glad I resisted. I would have felt ripped off if I had paid for the boat ride.
We all enjoyed the aquarium. But that afternoon we visited the toy museum near the railway station. It cost over £150 for 2 hours fun in the aquarium but only £21 for an hour of fun at the museum. Not comparing apples with apples but it shows how Merlin exploits families. At least there’s no fast track at extra cost to allow deep pockets to push in at the front of the queues like Merlin does at theme parks. (There weren’t queues at Sea Life, fortunately)

This is one of those tourist traps where the proprietor's intent to squeeze you for money overtakes the attraction itself.

The aquarium is quite small, with a reasonable range of sea life on display, it would take 45 minutes or so to see what there is to see.

Apart from the extortionate ticket prices, there is the constant upselling of 'experiences' and tat.

The final insulti is the hypocrisy of the lip service paid to conservation, plastic in the oceans, consumer responsibility and so on, followed by a gift shop staffed to the rafters with the cheapest, nastiest instant garbage plastic tat destined for the oceans.

Absolutely dire.

Hello StAppold, We're sorry you left feeling disappointed after your visit to SEA LIFE Brighton. We welcome all feedback from guests to review ways we can improve the experiences for all who visit. The Brighton Aquarium was conceived and designed by Eugenius Birch, the architect responsible for the West Pier. Though we are a smaller attraction, we are the oldest and still operated aquarium in the world and try to make the displays as interesting and interactive as possible! We understand your concern regarding the offerings in the gift shop. With that in mind, we have focused on offering toys that are made from 100% recycled materials such as our Eco Kins plush toys and our Lanka Kade block toys. In addition, we offer helicopters and seaplanes made from 100% recycled products and continuing to work with suppliers and manufacturers to find suitable offerings and reduce plastic in our shops. Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback. Kind Regards, Stephanie Guest Experience Team SEA LIFE Brighton

Visited here with my 2 & 5 year old who are big marine animal fans! I’m not sure what happened when we visited but my 2 year old just exploded with excitement. I’ve never seen him react like this before. Maybe it was the beautiful building, or the lighting, or even just the sheer amount of fish to see but he was beyond ecstatic. ‘Mummy look, shark!’ Must have been shouted by him at least 50 times. It was magical to witness. It’s a lovely set up and the kids did really enjoy themselves. We were there for just over an hour and for £60 for the lot of us it is a bit of an expensive day out. But we don’t do these things often so it was worth the money (well clubcard vouchers) and if you go midweek you can use cereal box vouchers. Staff were friendly, all the animals enclosures looked wonderful and it was just a magical experience for my two boys. Will be returning next year on our holidays!

An interesting listed building. Some of the exhibits were very good and some less so. The tank with the very large fish in it was excellent. The fish seemed to follow us as we went from one window to another.

Signage was patchy and the recent stuff seemed to be largely aimed at a very young age group. More grown up information would have been better. Much of the signage was poor and could have been written in the 1970s

it was pointless buying tickets in advance because we had to queue in line with those who were buying on the door.

Firstly the opening and closing times are wrong on the website - but they will still allow you book full price tickets only 30 mins before closing! over £50 for a 30 min walk around which felt incredibly rushed.

Upon arrival we were greeted at the door with a woman standing across it like a security guard asked us when are tickets are for (although we purchased any time tickets) she then said “we actually close at 4 and doors will close at 3 so you’ll have 45 minutes” very unwelcoming and abrupt.

We needed to use the bathroom when we arrived - to my dismay we were all told to use the same toilet (men and women) this was clearly marked as a male toilet. Which for reference was DISGUSTING! Urine all over the seats and floors. When airing the frustration the woman who worked there just laughed instead of sorting it out.

Facilities were unclean, surfaces were sticky, staff were not helpful. lots of tanks were empty.

All in all a complete waste of time and money. I couldn’t be paid to go back!

Hello MrsAMTR, We're sorry to hear that you felt this way with regards to your recent experience and that the staff were not helpful. We strive to make the attraction as exciting as possible in addition to making memorable experiences for our guests and that appears to not have happened in this case. We feel that in comparison to other Brighton attractions that we're competitively priced and provide value for money. We have a variety of amazing displays and interactive experiences and are sorry it only took you 30minutes to walk the aquarium as it takes most guests an hour plus. The toilets are being remodelled and for a few days time we did have a unisex toilet which was marked as such with sign next to the door. The toilets are looked after once an hour, so rest assured the items you mentioned would have been addressed and cleaned. The good news is the bathrooms are all operational now. Again, we appreciate the time you took to share your feedback. We welcome all feedback as it helps us to review how we can better improve guests experiences. Kind Regards, Guest Experience Team SEA LIFE Brighton
