Very aggressive staff shouted at us for not wearing mask didn’t get the chance to finish putting it on or say if we were exempt. Just walked out. Maybe put a sign outside saying masks have to be worn & train your staff not to be rude to customers.

I love this museum, a wide range of artefacts about local shopkeepers and a special display about Swanage during the war, lots of information about artists who have painted Swanage. Friendly and helpful staff.

Always pop in here whenever I'm in Swanage. Although it's tiny there's a lot of information to be had in there on the history of the town, the stone quarrying and geology and fossils. There are also a few mocked up old shop windows and an interesting display on Swanage in the war.

Knowledgeable staff on hand and a small gift shop selling local books etc.

Although it's wheelchair accessible there isn't a lot of room for one to get around inside.

Some fascinating exhibits, but the one that got me was the Roll of Honour, what a labour of love and respect, detailed accounts of the fallen of Swanage and surrounding area, had a bit of a lump in my throat reading them and then I read about Arthur Battrick just a lad (a boy telegraphist on HMS lynx), who went down with his ship in Scapa Flow, well I'm done, the tears are running down my face and you know what I'm not bothered if anyone noticed, but that was it, couldn't read any more.

Other interesting exhibits were examples of Purbeck stone with magnifiers to examine them, and a really fascinating account of Operation Biting, an operation into occupied France to get hold of German radar equipment, great account and photos.

Well worth a visit

I highly recommend the historical walk offered on a Tuesday. This was led by a local guide, Stewart, who was both enthusiastic and knowledgeable about the history of Swanage. The walks start outside the front of the museum at about 14:30 and ours lasted about an hour. The walk is funded from voluntary contributions but was worth every penny.

Small but well thought out space, Old shop displays excellent. WW2 information extremely interesting. Gift shop seems to have expanded each time I visit. Staff on duty genuinely interested in welcoming and talking to visitors.
