Friendly staff but slow service caused by too much loud chatter
Sep 2021 • Couples
Been many times before and service always slow. Such a shame as the young staff are very friendly and polite. They just need to work more as a team and focus on the job in hand. Far too much idle chatter going on. The service could be improved by just giving the job a bit more attention. 15 minutes is a long wait for a drink when it's not that busy.

Top Quality Plants
Jul 2021
Glorious to wander through the reasonably priced gifts, tools and seeds before entering the most wonderful collection of plants, which we couldn't resist.

Covid creating problems for all such centres but they have created a safe environment despite a substantial number of people. We had a quick drink outside the main cafe so unable to comment on the food and service offered. The toilets were good and clean. Renovations were underway on pathways and a new greenhouse, so they are not standing still. A good sign.

Much better plants than the bigger chains at much better prices, being looked after in a very hot spell, by people who obviously care. Service was considerate if not fully effusive in one case. But there's a pandemic on.

We will be back to stay again in Sherborne and I will leave more space in the car for plants. Really enjoyed it.

Macaroni cheese with no taste
Dec 2020 • Family
Table service would be a far better experience, long queues to order food so lots of people standing close to our table The room was cold
The macaroni cheese was the most unappetising pasta dish I have ever eaten, there was no cheese taste and they used salad cream on the side salad so none of us ate it
The hot chocolate was good
But I don’t think I will visit again

Christmas pit stop
Oct 2020
Love this garden centre. On this occasion we just dropped in to see their wonderful Christmas display as it is always amazing! They are still putting the final touches to it, but the effort they make is superb. Definitely worth a visit, and if it's raining and you have small children, I'd recommend it!
Unfortunately, we were unable to stop at the cafe on this visit - but we have enjoyed good food and service there in the past.

Morning out.
Sep 2020
Lovely garden, took a couple of hours to walk around, must be even better in spring and summer with plants out but we enjoyed the shrubs and tree's. Interesting to see Pope's seat, waterfall cascading and other features such as the huts.

Well worth the visit...

I have always found staff very helpful here - more so than in some other garden centres. Today, I was helped with advice re cleaning a pond which was very relevant and useful. I would have no qualms about recommending Castle Garden Centre to anyone (and no,I’m not an employee!!)

No help
May 2020
I went today to buy a number of plants, was told by staff that they could give no no advice . I asked if someone walking 6 foot ahead could just point out suitable plants for me - they could give no advice at all. Will never go there again.

Poor
May 2020
I have had two really poor experiences here recently.

I visited a few months ago and the restaurant was a mess. I needed milk and literally asked three people before getting any. It was all quite shambolic and the tables were a mess. Thank god for the one member of staff that does an amazing job. He's been there for a long time and used to work at Ask. His lovely attitude helps to balance out the poor attitude of some of his colleagues.

Then I returned post lock down to buy some plants for an elderly neighbour. The experience was awful. I appreciate their attention to trying to make the shop safe but the single lines and the lecture at the start about not being able to go back anywhere just made it a really stressful experience - not just for me as there were a couple who were barked at by a staff member over some error in where they stood who seemed upset by it. Why not just let a certain number of people in at a time and take away the stress?

Plus the signs that 'card payments are preferred' suggests that cash is still allowed. My elderly neighbour gave me cash and I ended up having to put all her shopping on my card because my cash was refused. Why not just make it clear that either cash is not accepted - or, give staff gloves to wear when / if handled?

Castle Gardens really need to invest a little in training staff and looking at shop logistics.

Great cake for diabetics
Jan 2020 • Couples
Popped in to our local Garden centre cafe this morning for coffee & a treat. Discovered a marvellous fruit cake with no added sugar. (They also do great cake slices for Vegans.)
This place is always busy (even in January) but they work really hard to create a good atmosphere & an inclusive menu that considers those of us on special diets.
And the Americano coffee (excellent blend...strong but with no bitter after-taste) comes in cups the size of small buckets! It's great...give it a go.
