It costs nowt and the architecture is very impressive indeed. I'm in no way religious but spent the best part of an hour roaming round the place exploring the nooks and crannies. Nice place to wander round if you're in Sherborne

Set in a beautifully picturesque part of England. We found street parking for an hour for free nearby. There are a few pretty shops nearby and I bought a beautiful hat. Lovely afternoon stop off. I will return.

This is lovely 15th century building with a gorgeous vaulted ceiling. Volunteers man the Abbey during the day and they have a pamphleted self-directed tour through the Abbey. If you are there on Sunday but do not want to attend Evensong, go visit in the hour before and listen to the choir and organ practice - the sound in the... More

Sherborne Abbey is a must visit if you are in the area. If you like churches, with stained glass and ornate ceilings (some of the best I have seen outside of Rome), you must visit. It is set in a wonderful green, and is surrounded by some interesting pubs. It costs nothing to enter.

This is an outstanding example of beautiful England. The whole village is charming, scenic and worthy of all the accolades, but the Abbey is breathtaking. It's small and manageable. The quality of workmanship is unbelievable. We had no idea before we visited, and it isn't well known. There are no tourist buses, no lines, no annoying parties being shown around.... More

Seriously old, with traces of Saxon features, this is a real treat for students of architectural styles. Others will just want to enjoy a peaceful moment in a great space, whilst I spent my time pondering why the flags of my local regiment, the West Norfolk's ended up here. There is some impressive Victorian stained glass, alongside more modern windows... More

Not spectacular from the outside this is a superb church once you get through the door. The stonework is amazing and some of the design work and architectural features are incredibly finely executed and unusual and perhaps unique. The interior is very photogenic and no permit is required. There are some beautiful and interesting tombs and supposedly bones of Alfred... More

Having been a boy at Sherborne School and performed many a time in the Abbey I came here with my fiancee to show here where I grew up. The Abbey is such a special building with beautiful stained glass. The stewards and vergers there are very welcoming and answered all our questions. They didn't even question me when I asked... We detoured to Sherborne on the advice of our B&B host from the previous night - and we were really glad we did. This Abbey was really lovely - from its stunning organ to the fan vaulted ceiling. There is a free tour here each Tuesday morning and we arrived not long after it started so were able to join... More
