Great views over the Dorset countryside with benches facing out over the hills.

Walk along Pine Walk, just off the high street, then down through shady, tree-lined path. At the bottom, turn right for a short distance along the road, then through parkland along the bottom of Castle Hill and take the steep steps back up to the top of the hill.

Great view point out from Shaftesbury - though no castle ruins to see.
Parking is an issue - so best to park in the town center.
Great to visit if you are passing through.

Its a nice walk and you have great views of the rolling Countryside. Good if the weather is nice. It can get real windy here as its all open.
There ain't much but walks with vast views. We was a little disappointed as its a little out of our way and there ain't much here, well nothing to be honest.

Not much to say, it is a view over the countryside. Disappointing that there was not a board pointing out places on interest. It was also very cold as it is exposed.

We were staying in Shaftesbury and were given a book of walks to do in the area and this was one of them. We had a lovely walk around the town and the views were amazing.

Blackmore Vale views from the top of Castle Hill Shaftesbury. Wide-ranging countryside vistas which are beautiful even when the sun is not shining. Recommended

Featured in the Hovis ad many years ago on the edge of Shaftesbury. Today i can say i walked up the hill

which is partly true. I watched a young girl climb up and decided to have a cup of tea at the top yes i did walk up but only a few yards I will leave the rest for you fit young things!
If you do walk the hill save time for tea or coffee in the scrumptious Salt Cellar at the top. YOU WONT BE DISSAPOINTED.

The overwhelming majority of people visiting Shaftesbury will go to see the beautiful view from Abbey Walk overlooking the Stour Valley. Few people know about the much less busy, equally as beautiful, vista of the Blackmore Vale to be enjoyed from the opposite side of the town. Well worth a visit, a virtually undiscovered joy!
