It's hardly the fault of Shaftsbury Abbey that Henry VIII ordered it to be dismantled in 1538! They've done a brilliant job in making the most of what's left, including a comprehensive audio tour and a fine small museum.

King Alfred who founded Shaftesbury installed one of his daughters as the fist Abbess of the Abbey. The audio guide gives a very good impression of how the Abby once was. There is also a good children's trail which our grandchildren much enjoyed.

Interesting and well kept and loved park area in Shaftesbury. It was worth a look and the effort to find it.

Went with wife on a sunny day. Had gardeners world card, so only £3 for 2 of us. Audio guides provided and dogs allowed in. Well worth the visit.

An interesting history of the Abbey and another chance to reflect on the vile nature of Henry 8th who destroyed so much of our architectural history
