Hidden gem in rural Dorset

We visited Melbury as part of a weekend camping just outside Shaftesbury and were most definitely not disappointed!

From the moment we arrived, Clare was a gracious host whose passion shone through. After a tour, you are offered tasting of the wine with discussion and a superb platter lunch of cheese, salad and bread with your choice of wine. As two of us had dietary requirements, this was no issue whatsoever and were given two options to choose from, plus GF bread. It's so rare to be offered so great options and for everything to be sourced and made so locally.

After lunch, we were offered several wine liqueurs to round off the visit.

Excellent visit and would highly recommend. Most definitely will return if in the area.

Glamping and wine tasting
Aug 2021 • Couples
My wife and I stayed for a weekend in the barrell huts and did the wine tasting.
The huts seemed almost brand new, and the other facilities were great, including a shared caravan with electrics including kettle, microwave, small fridge etc and cooking utensils and crockery.
There was also a BBQ and picnic benches.
The toilets and showers were 3/4 star hotel quality, very clean.
The area itself was so beautiful, rolling hills and a stream you can slighlty hear from your cabin.
Clare our host was brilliant, so friendly and had so many interesting things to say, not just about the vineyard and local area but also about how they keep the business as eco friendly as possible.
I particularly enjoyed the sparkling wine and fantastic cheese, ham ploughman lunch (also available in a vegetarian or vegan version with advance notice).
I would advice you take plenty of bedding if glamping (as it mentions on the website,) the cabins are very clean etc but they are litterally just wood.
All round, great value for money and we will return with friends.

So glad that you enjoyed your visit and the wines. We hope that the Glamping Barrels will be fully up and running (post Covid-19) next year for everyone to enjoy ....along with the two self contained holiday lodges if we can build them in time for Spring!

Fantastic
Aug 2020
We had a great time doing the wine tasting and lunch. We are not wine buffs but the talk by Clare and Corinne was really interesting and we learnt an awful lot as it was put across in an easy manner. Their passion for their process whilst keeping it eco friendly was truly inspiring. This also applies to the buildings, water usage and tending to the vines with tlc rather than lots of sprays. Lunch was yummy with locally sourced ham and cheese which helped soak up the several different wines we sampled during the morning (we were reluctant to spit it out as all of them were really nice). This is a must place to go or a gift for family or friends. You will not be disappointed with the presentation and content given by Clare and her all girl team. Thank you all for a lovely morning.

Bought Groupon vouchers for birthday presents. Had a tour, talk and lunch. Was superb and really interesting. Awesome wine tastings and lunch using local produce. What an amazing ‘cottage industry’. Highly recommend a visit here and to support such a knowledgeable and eco friendly local business.

Thank you so much for your comments we love it when people enjoy their visit even more than we do showing you what we do! Your views and support are really welcomed in such a difficult year for small businesses. We hope to see you again, so that you can see how we evolve! Best wishes

Well organised, relaxed and informative tour by friendly wine makers.
Aug 2020
We have enjoyed a visit here today with a group of friends for a tour of the vineyard. Well organised with appropriate safety precautions for the time. The presentation was made by enthusiastic wine makers who clearly have a passion for their produce and promoting English wines. A good insight into the wine making using natural processes without the use of finnings allowing some wines to be vegan friendly.
Great tastings and lunch thank you.
We have started a bottle of Melbury Vale 'Dawn' straight in the glass over ice, delicious.
Well worth a visit.

I received a tour as a birthday gift and although we had to rearrange several times due to the pandemic, it was well worth the wait. We were given a warm welcome even though we were late because of unexpected heavy traffic!
Delicious lunch laid on and eaten outside with views of the vineyard and rolling hills and occasionally accompanied by a very sweet little dog.
Three very knowledgeable and friendly ladies made this experience very enjoyable and we hope to return next year for a stay in their glamping pods!
