- Mark WCalne, United Kingdom190 contributionsGreat Beach FULL STOPHave been going to Poole and Bournemouth for nearly 40 years now from being a little boy to taking the grand children. We love the area and have spent numerous summers and holidays at the Bournemouth, Sandbanks and Branksome beaches but Alum is our favourite. Get there early and you can park in a car park virtually on the promenade. Even easier if you have anyone with a disabled pass. There are toilets and shops and cafe, plus ice cream kiosks aplenty, what’s also great is that it’s on the promenade stretching all the way from Boscombe to Sandbanks so you can walk for miles. The beach is pure, golden soft sand and only a short walk to the sea. The water is relatively shallow and calm. All you need for a perfect day at the beach.Visited June 2024Traveled with familyWritten June 28, 2024
- Kate W2 contributionsPerfect beach!Perfect beach for families with young kids. We had a great time, while visiting Bournemouth. We stayed at a very family friendly hotel, the Collingwood, just walking distance from the beach. The hotel recommended this beach which has great facilities for families including a play park and cafe which was perfect.Visited July 2024Traveled with familyWritten July 25, 2024

This beach is beautiful, clean and there is a playground near it for children. There is also a car park very close to the beach but its not cheap.
There is a cafe by the main entrance and there are lifeguards during the peak season.
I would happily return.

A lovely sandy beach, which slopes gently so, at most stages of the tide, children can stay in depth for some way. Lifeguards are on duty, in season. There is a car park, well maintained toilets, and a children's play area (based on the book Treasure island). There is an Italian Restaurant, and a take-away food/ ice creme/drinks 'stall'. Surprisingly for high season, both the restaurant and the stall are closed on Mondays and Tuesdays.
We left our dog at home because of various Trip advisor reports suggesting that dogs were not allowed on the beach. Although they are not actually at the lifeguarded area, and big sign saying no dogs just as you get Alum beach is very off-putting, dogs are allowed on the next bit of beach about 100 yards away in both directions.

We visited on a hot August day yet this stunning beach was not busy. It is gorgeous. A real highlight of our holiday. Lovely sand and clear calm water. Lifeguards and very family friendly. Clean and well looked after. Absolutely loved the place.

A great beach for families.
Golden sand, and a long stretch of beach.
A kids free play area/ park just behind the beach which is nice for kids of all ages.
Can sit outside of cafe with a nice drink and bit of food and watch kids no problem,

Love this part of the world and love this beach.
Beautiful golden sand and stunning views.
Love the fact the beach is split into sections and dogs are allowed all year round 🐾🐾
Have been here in the sun and the rain and it really doesn't matter.
Make a point of spending lots of time here everytime we visit Bournemouth 🏖️

What a beautiful beach! Even though it was crazy on other beaches this weekend it seemed fine here.
Sand was soft and water was clear. Only drawback was the beach that dogs were allowed on. Some people let their dogs run around and disturb others.

We were looking for a dog friendly sea and Sandy beach and found a portion of Alum Chine beach which absolutely was!!
They got to introduce more facilities and restaurants near by as you can find them only if from where you are you walk all the way to the pier!
Lovely time though for our pooch!

Took our 4 year old to dig sand castles as a lovely winters day.
Unlike may to September ..no restrictions for dogon the beach.
They
were running around wild and poohing all over the sand... some owners picked their dog pooh up and some didn’t.
This is made the sand dirty and dangerous...there should be a part of the beach dog free all year round.
As the pooh is a health danger
Such a shame for kids deprived of the beach

Walk 20-30 minutes along the promenade heading west to enjoy the best beach in Bournemouth with golden sand and well maintained facilities.
It’s extra special early in the morning on a warm weekday when there are no crowds and it feels like you are a long long way from the usual beach experience in Britain.

Is there a carpark and if so is it expensive for a long stay please ?
Written June 24, 2019
Yes part of the beach does. The main section doesn’t! To be more specific in the summer time, dogs are allowed at: Alum Chine beach between the Alum Chine beach office (Groyne 3) and the border with Poole's first beach, Branksome Dene Chine beach. Durley Chine beach dogs are only permitted between Groynes 5 (middle chine) and Groyne 7. The groynes are all marked up!

"Dog walkers can use the seafront. Please clean up any mess your dog makes and put it in a bin. If you don’t have bags to pick up your dog’s mess, pop into your nearest beach office.
You must keep your dog on a lead from 1st May to 30th September. You can only let them loose in the following areas:
Border with Poole to Groyne 3 (Alum Chine beach office)
Groynes 5 to 7 (Middle Chine to Durley Chine)
Groynes 32 to 41 (Fisherman’s Walk to Southbourne)
Groyne 45 to Hengistbury Head"

Hi there, im looking to do bbq next week in bournmouth. Which beach would I be allowed to do bbq on?
Which place would be best to do bbq?
Hope to hear from you soon.
Thank you
Written August 3, 2016
You can't have a barbecue before 6 pm. The choice is yours re any of the beaches, but the further away from either pier will be quieter. I like Branksome Chine . But as I said all are perfect.
They dont allow open barbeques but disposable ones are okay if doused with water at the end of use and placed by the bins.
