Whilst wandering the streets of Totnes I spotted a sign that said cheese! Being of Dutch descent I could not resist the draw of the cheese! What a lovely little shop with friendly, helpful and knowledgeable staff. It was great to hear that 85% are local with just a few from a little further away. We purchased a selection of cheeses….the Eve (a vine leaf wrapped goats cheese), a piece of the Cornish Gold and a local Camembert. These made our dinner that evening. All were delicious. I enjoy trying other cheeses as I make cheese myself at home for personal consumption so can appreciate the time and effort which has gone into the production of each of these. I highly recommend Country Cheeses if you’re looking to try something new and tasty!

This is a great little shop with a fantastic selection of local cheeses. The staff were lovely and going out of their way to please and be helpful.
I was looking for some cheese for Christmas presents and they always had great suggestions for cheeses to recommend, despite me being really indecisive. They even wrapped them all up for me nicely in paper.
Just a shame I didn't buy any for myself!

My second visit to Totnes yesterday and my second visit to this little cheese shop down a side street.

I had to queue to get in which I am sure is costing businesses vital money.

Anyway once in I bought three different cheeses for my tastes and a jar of pickled onions.

Can't wait to try them once my mum and stepfather drop off the stuff they took back in the car either today or tomorrow. Friendly, helpful staff too.

Only visited to get some Devon Blue whilst on holiday but bowled over by enthusiasm and knowledge by staff , who obviously love their job. Didnt feel pressurised into choices but came away with a substantial range of cheeses and enjoyed every one.
Also extremely well done for dealing with the customer who couldnt understand why they couldnt sell him Derbyshire sage cheese.
Just wish I lived closer. An absolute delight of a shop.

A delightful shop that I would certainly recommend you experience if on a visit to Totnes. Nestled in a narrow side street just off the main shopping street (look out for their sign). Currently operating limited numbers in the shop under Covid rules. Therefore, you can feel safe. You will find a vast array of cheeses, along with pickles, jams, chutneys and fresh bread. A very nice quaint feel to the shop that offers a lovely product and nice lovely, friendly service. Do give it a try.

Absolutely love this shop. My partner is French and we both love cheeses of all sorts and this shop is up there with the best French cheese shop/markets that we've found. They always have a fantastic selection and a huge variety, very knowledgable staff, you can try all the cheeses and it's really very cheep. This is not a pretentious shop, just a blooming marvellous cheese shop. If you love cheese it's worth going to Totnes just to visit this shop.

Fantastic shop with great staff who know what they're talking about. Not precious about letting you taste every cheese in the shop (and there are loads) and they know more about the cheese than the cheese itself. Go local, shop local, and for your tastebuds' sake, get them down to Country Cheeses.

Completely love this place. It's not only full of beautiful and varied cheeses to try, but it's also SO MUCH CHEAPER THAN SUPERMARKETS for 'everyday' cheeses (if you're local or staying in Totnes). The staff are true experts, whether you're just buying a little lump of cheddar or one of their amazing cheese-cakes. Recommended for locals and visitors alike.
