Overview
More
Kents Cavern is by far Britain's most important prehistoric cave used by ancient humans for the last 500,000 years including Neanderthals and early modern humans. The caves are open every day for guide tours, 7 days a week with natural caverns, amazing natural formations, remains of mammoth, woolly rhino, sabre-toothed cats, an Ice Age woodland trail quest, nice shop and cafe with views over the Ilsham Valley. The closest hotel to the attraction is the Gleneagles, inspiration for TV's Fawlty Towers. We are 2km from Torquay Harbour and only 15 mins walk from the South West Coast Path and local beaches, well-known to previous visitors like Agatha Christie, Beatrix Potter, George V, Alfred Wallace and Charles Darwin. Perfect for a rainy or sunny day by the seas, winter or summer.

Our first full day on our holiday, and what a great start. A fascinating cave system, actually enhanced by the Christmas decorations! Alan was the best possible guide and gave us a huge amount of information, managing to explain stuff for the adults whilst keeping...More

We loved it. Our guide was so knowledgeable about the cavern and enthusiastic, she didn't sound like she was just reciting a script. We were lucky that there were just the two of us on our tour so we could ask plenty of questions. The...More

Well worth the visit to these caverns and learn about our ancestors. Our guide was informative and funny - good way to learn and excite people

Had wanted to go here for a while, and it did not disappoint. The fact that the oldest human remains have been found here in UK is fascinating. Looking at the evolution of the human skull was interesting. The caves are in very good conditionwith...More

Visited here and enjoyed a guided tour (think this is the only way you can visit caves) where we learnt history of the caves and some interesting facts! David our guide was good. Enjoyable visit! Not sure it’s for really young kids, one child in...More

Thank you! We've been working with Butterfly for 10 years now - we're really proud of what this partnership has accomplished so it's great to hear you enjoyed it.

The talker of the tour was good but felt this would have been better if it was a solo tour to be able to spend a bit more time on our own. Not much to the caves also.

Thank you for coming. Unfortunately, the caves have the highest level of protection in the UK, so we feel that guided tours are the best way to get across their incredible history and to ensure their protection.

Really interesting place to visit, very informative guides with touch of humour and interaction with children. Lovely woodland walk outside. Very nice cafe and gift shop. Would not recommend if you do not like being closed in.

It’s alway a great experience to go into Kent’s caverns. The history is taught in a light hearted way by the young guides. The exhibits at the end are looking pretty tired now and I hope a better display is on the way. The caverns...More

Well presented tour of just the right length. Mahira was bright and engaging and gave just the right level of detail. The caves are well lit and you can see some amazing historical artifacts.
