Demolition imminent - The Hub to close June 2019
Feb 2019 • Friends
For decades this has been our favourite music venue in Plymouth. A great range of bands and performers including top names, all in a modest medium sized but near perfect old characterful backstreet building close to the centre of town. And all because of the council’s peculiar and questionable plan and development of a ‘boulevard’ linking the bottom of town to the commercial dock and ferry port at Millbay. The White Rabbit went a few years ago. There were plaintiff and vain hopes then that a replacement space would emerge for the WR but it never did. Maybe there could be a reincarnation for the Hub somewhere else but I wouldn’t hold your breath. For those who care there is a formal and emotive announcement on the Hub FB page and the local press have spun a sad article with a bit of history. The only upbeat element is that the management at the Hub hope to fill the few gaps in the schedule for the last few months and to give as many supporters and revellers as much opportunity as possible to fit in a few more good times.

Like this venue, but not great tonight...

Like to go to small venues to see bands. This has always been one of my favourites, with a capacity of 400-450.
Last night was just not great for Bad Manners gig. Bar and service was fine, but the band were due on at 9.30pm and to finish at 11. We had a train for 11.10pm.... don't know why the band set up took so long, but they didn't come on until gone 10pm so we missed a lot of the set.
Shame.

Great session. The Hub on top form. Great crowd, easy going. The place seems , if anything, to have upped a gear while some us worry about the council’s crazy plans for the boulevard to Millbay docks.

The perfect venue for a gig, saw the Quireboys do an unplugged set and loved it, just the right size to capture the atmosphere, bar & bogs close by.

Great Little Venue

Had a great evening here.
It's the right size for gigs, reminded me of the old Metro/Van Dike.
Will definitely be going back.

First time at this venue - just a brilliant size - could see properly and sound spot on. Found a little corner to the left and had a perfect and close view. The floor is sticky, the toilets dire but loo roll was present - reminded me of Rock City in the early 1980's. Staff and security very pleasant. Warned that the beer is awful and no cider - good pint of Somerbys but ran out so couldn't have a pint after the gig so went on else where.
Would go again as perfect size. Hope it continues and not closed with the plans afoot in the area - Plymouth has a lack of venues this size and needs more. Excellent evening and FD were fantastic as usual.

Good venue. The right size for up and coming acts or those just over the crest of the hill! Decent bar with not silly prices.

Wish this venue had more good acts. It has a few a year. Like The Beat and Roachford, but it could have more and would gladly visit every other week!

Great little live music space.

Been coming here a few times a year for many years and almost always had a good time. Has change hands and management occasionally but it has carried on. Still active but sadly eeking out what may be its last months after a questionable decision by local planners to authorise the clearance of a wide space from the bottom of the retail centre of town to the edge of Millbay dock to create a boulevard of fancy shops businesses and residences. We all wish firstly that somehow these advancing developments can be delayed or since the die is apparently cast, that those who currently operate the Hub will be able to find alternative equally welcoming eccentric and lively committed premises.
